The Redstone Arsenal military base in Huntsville, Alabama is on lockdown following reports of a possible active shooter at the facility, base officials wrote on Twitter.
"Possible active shooter on the Arsenal. Installation is locked down. Run hide fight," Redstone Arsenal Military Base said in a tweet.
BNO News reported that the incident began at approximately 10 a.m. ET.
ABC's affiliate in the area reported that all gates are closed until further notice and that employees are being asked to seek shelter. Emergency services are currently at the scene, and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, which is located on the military base, is also on lockdown.
Alabama governor Kay Ivey has been briefed on the situation. "My office is being updated about the situation @TeamREDSTONE I will continue to closely monitor and pray for a peaceful and quick resolution," Ivey said on Twitter.
The Department of Homeland Security advises that "Run Hide Fight" is the proper response sequence to an active-shooter situation.
