Air India
Fires 45 Cabin Crew Members In 6 Months
Strategy1 min read

National carrier Air India (AI) has sacked 45 cabin crew members over the past six months for being absent, an AI executive said. “We began this drive last year when we saw a large gap between the number of cabin crew on our rolls and the number (of those) reporting to work,” he said.

At present, the carrier has about 3,400 cabin crew on its rolls and more than 800 on contract.

Under this drive, the carrier sent notices to the employees who were absent from work for more than 15 days without any authorised reason. This was followed by chargesheets and termination notices.

Some employees came back to work, some resigned while others were fired.

This measure augurs well for the loss-making carrier as one of its main problems is a large number of employees.
Air India has made heavy losses after its merger with the erstwhile domestic carrier Indian Airlines.
