After White House snub, the Golden State Warriors met with Obama and Nancy Pelosi during trip to DC
- After the winning the NBA Finals last year, the Golden State Warriors famously opted out of a traditional visit to the White House to meet President Donald Trump.
- Golden State star Stephen Curry said he "wouldn't go" well before his team won the championship, which resulted in Trump publicly revoking the team's standing invitation.
- This week, the Warriors traveled to D.C. to take on the Washington Wizards and made a pit stop to visit former President Barack Obama, with whom they visited after winning the 2015 NBA Finals.
- While Obama did not attend Thursday night's contest between Golden State and the Wizards, fans could find Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in the stands and visiting with the players outside of their locker room.
(Reuters) - The Golden State Warriors shared a private visit with former U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday before beating the Washington Wizards 126-118 in D.C.
A photo of the meeting was posted on Instagram by a team security guard who later deleted the image. San Jose Mercury News reporter Logan Murdock captured the photo and tweeted it.
The team's players and security personnel visited with Obama for about an hour, the San Jose Mercury News said. Golden State's coaching staff was not in attendance, and players declined to elaborate on who set up the meeting with Obama.
Later in the day, some of the Warriors also had a chance to meet with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was in attendance at Thursday night's game.
The Warriors have avoided the traditional trip for a championship team to the White House under sitting President Donald Trump.
Trump publicly revoked the standing invitation after Golden State's 2017 NBA title after guard Stephen Curry had previously said he would not want to attend. The team also did not visit after winning the 2018 championship.
