After Hike and Truecaller, now Whatsapp is gearing up to implement United Payments Interface (UPI) on its platform, making payments easier for the users.

To facilitate instant transfer, Whatsapp is in talks with Indian banks and other institutions such as the State Bank of India, the National Payments Corporation of India, etc.

"Due to the complexity of the architecture, WhatsApp is in discussions with the State Bank of India, NPCI and few other banks to devise ways to integrate their systems with the bank and with NPCI,” a senior SBI official told ET.

In the past, Truecaller has worked with ICICI Bank to implement UPI-based payments. Recently, Hike Messenger launched its UPI-based payments in collaboration with Yes Bank.
