Leap Day comes only once every four years, and retailers are competing to roll out all kinds of promotions for shoppers to celebrate.

Aviation Gin, owned by actor Ryan Reynolds, brought the game to a new level with its Leap Day ad, which dropped on Friday.

The ad features Arlene Manko, a woman born on February 29, 1936. She was technically five years old when she got married and has waited 30,679 days to turn 21.

"I had seven kids in 10 years - you think sometimes I didn't want a drink?" Manko said in the ad. "Now, I'm ready to party."

The ad is a toast to all of those born on the same day, who "have had to patiently wait all these years to finally ring in their 21st birthday," an Aviation Gin spokesperson told Business Insider in an email.

All "leap babies" celebrating their legal drinking age birthdays can email Reynolds at Ryan@aviationgin.com to get a $29 alcohol gift card, the company's spokesperson said.

The gift cards are redeemable at online spirits retailers and have no expiration dates. The retailer's main US partner is Reservebar.com.

The ad was posted on Reynolds' personal YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, which have millions of followers.

AdWeek called Reynolds "a master marketer who leaps on just about every timely excuse for a fun ad."
