  • Some Verizon customers on the East Coast are experiencing an outage that's preventing text messages from being sent.
  • The carrier confirmed the outage in a customer response on Twitter Tuesday morning.
  • The company didn't say how long the outage will last, but said its technicians are working "non-stop" to resolve the issue.

A Verizon outage on the East Coast is preventing some customers from sending text messages, the company said on Twitter on Tuesday.

The carrier's customer support Twitter account confirmed the outage in response to questions from customers. The issue appears to have started at 8:30 a.m. on March 12, according to The North Jersey Record, and Verizon said its technicians are "fully aware we have a ton of customers that are being effected." The company added that it's "working non-stop to get this matter resolved as soon as possible," although it did not provide a time frame for when the issue will be fixed.

In one response to a customer, Verizon suggested regularly restarting electronic devices as the issue "could be resolved at any time."

Business Insider has reached out to Verizon for additional information about the issue and will update this story with any response.

Verizon's reply comes as many Twitter users called out the service provider on social media Tuesday morning.

This isn't the first time Verizon's network has endured an outage in recent months. In September, it experienced an outage impacting portions of the Northeast, the Midwest, and the South. A more recent outage in February affected customers in Michigan.
