A UK woman may have missed out on a £33 million lottery win because she put her ticket in the washing machine
A woman is claiming she is the owner of a UK lottery ticket worth £33 million - but says the bar code has been removed because the ticket accidentally went into her washing machine.
A 14-times rollover prize of £66 million was split between two winners earlier this month.
Scottish couple David and Carol Martin pocketed half of the winnings, while the other half of the jackpot remains unclaimed.
A woman claiming to have won the prize says the ticket's date, barcode, and serial number have been removed after she left it in a pair of jeans which went in her washing machine.
Speaking to The Times newspaper the woman said: "I've been a nervous wreck. I haven't slept all night.
"Since I found it my pocket, my daughter and I have been drying it out with a hairdryer. You can see the 2016 but not the date."
Camelot, the company which runs Britain's National Lottery, has asked the woman to post the ticket to them so they can investigate.
"The bigger the win, the more people we have coming forward in the genuine but misguided belief they have a valid ticket," a Camelot source told The Times.
"But no date, no barcode, no serial number, and the right numbers? That sounds all a little too convenient to me."
