Two people are dead and four others are injured after a rocket engine exploded at a military base in Arkhangelsk, northern Russia, the country's state-run Tass news agency reported Thursday, citing the country's defense ministry.

The engine exploded while specialists were testing the engine's "liquid propulsion system," the ministry said, according to Tass.

The two people who died were civilian specialists, while the injured people consisted of military and civilian personnel, the BBC reported.

Russia's defense ministry also stressed that there were "no emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, the radiation background is normal," Tass reported.
