In this Feb. 24, 2006 file photo, Militants wearing black masks, military fatigues and carrying Kalashnikov assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers patrol the creeks of the Niger Delta area of Nigeria. The main militant group in Nigeria's oil-rich southern region said Tuesday it is willing to cease hostilities if the federal government allows conflict mediation by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.George Osodi/AP

Last month, anonymous assailants bombed a sub-sea pipeline to Shell's Forcados export terminal in Nigeria.

The terminal may not be running until May at least, according to officials cited by RBC Capital Markets.

The highly sophisticated attack closed off 250,000 barrels of oil exports per day and sharply reduced gas supplies to local power plants.

Although the identity of the assailants remains unknown, security experts suspect that the attack was carried out by militants who deployed deep-water divers, according to the FT.
