The video of Professor William Penn's comments from the first day of his creative writing class was originally posted by Campus Reform - a conservative blog that seeks to expose liberal bias in higher education. During the class, Penn says that Republicans are a group of "old dead white people" who have "raped" the country.
Among his comments posted on the video, Penn said:
The video gained widespread attention after being posted on several conservative websites, and today MSU said that Penn's classes have been reassigned to other professors.
An MSU spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press, "The dean of the College of Arts and Letters and a representative from the provost's office met with Penn, who acknowledged that some of his comments were inappropriate, disrespectful and offensive and may have negatively affected the learning environment ... Penn's teaching duties have been reassigned to others. Students' education will continue as scheduled with alternate instructors."
