  • A helicopter has crashed into the Hudson River in New York City.
  • Only the pilot was on board, and was safely removed without injury, the fire department confirmed.

A helicopter has crashed into the Hudson River in New York City, the fire department confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the FDNY confirmed the crash and said the pilot, the only person on board, was safely removed from the water with no injuries.

Multiple people on Twitter said they saw a helicopter plunge into the water around 2:30 pm, near piers where Blade and other helicopters operate on Manhattan's West side at 34th street and 12th avenue.

Video on CNN showed a large police and fire response to the crash, as onlookers flooded the riverside park to get a better look at the incident.
