A gentleman only needs these 5 items to transition his wardrobe to spring
Finance3 min read

Spring is fickle. It's hard to know what it's arrived to stay, and as such it's hard for a gentleman to juggle every item of clothing he needs for the season.

Basically the question is - how do I stay warm without looking like I'm still in hibernation?

Here's your answer: You only really need 5 items (or tips), according to our friend Judah Estreicher of Baltimore's JBD Clothiers. JBD makes custom suits and dresses clients like 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco.

1. You need a trench coat.

"Bring out that classic trench coat," said Estreicher. "Winter has come and gone, so nix all those fur and heavy wool jackets. If you want to try something new, go for a trench with a pattern or a different type of fabric..."

The Cole Haan Cotton Blend Twill Car Coat will cost you $328.00 at Nordstrom.

2. You need some solid layering sweaters.

"Layering is key-the shift from winter to spring means chilly mornings with warmer afternoons. Layering guarantees you won't be caught overheating during your lunch breaks or shivering on your morning trek to work," said Estreicher.

You may want to check out some knits from Combatant Gentleman - sweaters $45, cardigans $35.

3. Get a blue suit.

"Add some color to your suit, blue to be exact," Estreicher told Business Insider." Blue suits showed up all over New York Fashion Week this year and a pop of color adds a fresh feel to any ensemble. If you aren't quite ready to rock a full blue suit, go for something more subtle, like a blue sport jacket or blue pants."

You've got tons of options for a fresh spring suit that will actually fit you. Try Indochino, Alton Lane, Combatant Gentleman and more.

Indochino's Essential Blue Sharkskin Suit (below) will cost you $449.

4. Go sockless.

"Skip the socks. It's spring now and our ankles no longer need to be covered up by heavy, scratchy socks. So keep them in the drawer and if you're feeling adventurous, roll up your pants and show us a little ankle," said Estreicher.

5. Get yourself a pair of fresh sunglasses.

"Bring out your stylish sunglasses. More sun means more chances to wear your best shades. Spring 2015 trends include mirrored lenses and rounded frames. If you are feeling classic, stick to your timeless aviators, as they will always be in fashion," said Estreicher.

If you feel like splurging, love Barton Perreira's collection. The one's below, "Mac" retail for $470.
