A Freak Power Outage Delayed The Super Bowl For 35 Minutes

Three minutes into the third quarter of the Super Bowl, a power surge caused an outage at the Superdome in New Orleans.

Play has since resumed, but there was a lengthy delay.

According to the CBS broadcast, about half the lights in the stadium all went out at once after a "surge in the building." It took about 35 minutes for the lights to come back on.

Announcers Jim Nantz and Phil Simms did not have power, so the delay was mostly narrated by sideline reporters.
