A driverless metro train made in India will move commuters in Sydney

• Australia’s transport minister Andrew Constance and Premier Galdys Berejiklian inaugurated Sydney’s new fully automated driverless metro train service.
  
• The trains are designed by French company Alstom, and were manufactured in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh, India under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
  

India just manufactured and delivered a fully-automated driverless train---but it will run in Australia!

French major Alstom built this train at Sricity facility in Andhra Pradesh, as a part of Make in India initiative. As many as 22 such trains from India, will run as a part of a new metro line in Sydney.

Australia’s transport minister Andrew Constance and Premier Galdys Berejiklian inaugurated Sydney’s new fully automated driverless metro train service.

The trains were designed in France and assembled in India, with contribution from Alstom’s facilities in Australia, Brazil,China and Belgium, according to sources.

The Sricity facility has already supplied 22 six-car Metropolis trains to Sydney. It is a special economic zone which has manufacturing facilities from multinational companies like Cadbury, Pepsico, Kelloggs, Danieli and Isuzu.

Metro projects in India

In India, very few cities have metros. And only Delhi’s magenta metro line has driverless features.

Apart from Delhi, metros run in nine other cities like --- Kolkata, Bengaluru, Gurugram, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. And, not many of them are profitable.

E. Sreedharan, India’s Metro Man, highlighted that Delhi metro was under ₹350 billion debt. The state government in the meanwhile had proposed free travel in metro for women.
