A Chinese company has a hybrid supercar concept that could change the world

Mar 3, 2016, 19:29 IST

Techrules

Techrules, a Chinese automotive research company, showed off an insane hybrid supercar concept, called the AT96, on Wednesday. Word from them is that this car could be capable of zero to 62 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds, a top speed of 217 MPH, and a power output of 1030BHP, all while getting 1569 MPGs. If that sounds pretty crazy, that's because it is pretty crazy.

To achieve these outlandish numbers, Techrules is powering the car using a technology they're calling a "Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle" powertrain system.

Basically, fuel is used by a microturbine, which then sends power to the batteries, then the power is transferred over to the motors which drive the wheels.

Techrules hopes to have two different models on sale. A track version that takes airplane fuel and a road-going version which is gasoline friendly.

For now, all of this stuff is pretty much up in the air and any sort of production version is likely several years away, as the car is still completely in the concept stage. However, Top Gear reports that Techrules had a working prototype at the Silverstone Circuit in England just last month.

If something like this were to see production any time soon, it would knock companies like Bugatti and Koenigsegg right off their high horse.
