But that was not the case when 30-year-old Lebanese-Egyptian jewelry designer Sabine Ghanem married 26-year-old billionaire oil heir Joseph Getty last month in Rome, Italy.
As it turns out, Ghanem and Getty are just like us: they neatly cataloged all of their photos under the hashtag #Joebine, a composite of their two first names.
The incredible wedding weekend was covered by Harper's Bazaar, W magazine, and New York Magazine's The Cut, and was rumored to have cost Ghanem's Lebanese financier father nearly $11 million.
The epic wedding celebrations began with a party the night before the wedding. The theme was "Les Liaisons Dangereuse," an 18th Century classic novel about the French aristocracy. Guests were happy to dress to the theme.
Guests included Princess Beatrice, socialite Bianca Brandolini d'Adda, and Monaco royal Pierre Casiraghi with his finance Beatrice Borromeo - oh, and Pandora Vanderpump of reality TV fame.
The soon-to-be bride looked magnificent in her dress. Ghanem's father is a financier while her mother is an Egyptian interior designer, according to the Telegraph.
The dress was long in the back but the bride wore what appear to be shorts or a miniskirt in the front with Christian Louboutin heels.
Her hair was styled to look like Marie Antoinette.
There was a buffet dinner for guests with towering flower displays.
They ate in a gorgeous set that was reminiscent of the 1988 "Dangerous Liaisons" movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Glenn Close.
The next day was the wedding. Getty and Ghanem married at the Basilica of the Twelve Apostles in Rome.
Instead of wearing a traditional veil, Ghanem wore a custom-embroidered cape with a huge sun motif on the back.
The design was the creative brainchild of French haute couture label Schiaparelli that co-designed the dress with Ghanem. There were over 500,000 sequins used in the design.
The ring pillow, her shoes, and her dress were also custom-embellished.
It took over three assistants to help her wrangle the dress and veil.
The result was obviously gorgeous.
After the ceremony, the couple took pictures with their wedding party. The festive event was a break from a drunk-driving scandal and drug-overdose tragedy that have haunted the billionaire Getty oil family of late.
And the guests were treated to another lavish buffet lunch.
Then it was off to the reception.
The reception was held at an unknown estate and the theme was "Magic Mirrors."
The bride changed into a gorgeous dress with a low back, sequins, and feathers.
The groom wore a double-breasted suit and bow tie.
Their cake was huge, and was decorated with apples, peaches, and lots of other fruits.
There was also a sun panel where guests took photo booth pictures.
The bride took advantage of the scenery.
She also posed with her guests and new husband.
The couple celebrated all night long.
Congratulations Sabine and Joseph Getty!
