A 9-way kidney transplant is happening in San Francisco
The surgeries began Wednesday night with patient No. 1 - 56-year-old Reid Moran-Haywood, who had one of his kidneys removed at the University of California, San Francisco.
Local TV station KRON 4 reports Moran-Haywood's kidney was rushed to another patient less than two miles away at California Pacific Medical Center.
KRON 4 reporter Justine Waldman says some of the patients wanted to remain anonymous, but the 36-hour transplant chain includes a husband donating a kidney to his wife, and ends with a patient who's receiving a healthy kidney after having been on dialysis for several years.
