Australian Rohan Dennis just rode the fastest time trial in Tour de France history and donned the first leader's yellow jersey of the race, NBC Sports reports.

He rode about 55.446 kmh for a stage-winning time of 14 minutes and 56 seconds, CyclingWeekly reports.

It was the fastest individual stage ever ridden in the Tour.

Dennis rides for the US-based BMC Racing Team.

He is the seventh rider from Australia to lead the Tour, the world's premier bicycle race, which runs July 4-26.

More to come.
