A 2016 Rio Olympics waterway has levels of viruses akin to raw sewage - here's what it looks like

Months after an AP report that the water venues for the Rio Olympics are teeming with viruses and human waste, AP released another report that shows the pollution hasn't improved and is more widespread than before.

Despite the belief that athletes might be safe from the pollution further away from shore, AP's new report found that the pollution is just as bad one kilometer away from the shore.

A waterborne virus expert said that there's a 99% chance athletes will get infected if they ingest three teaspoons of the water.

It's alarming that the efforts to clean up the water seem to have fallen flat, and with the Olympics less than a year away, it seems there won't be much improvement before the games.
