During a quarterfinal against Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva in Hamburg on April 30, 1993, Monica Seles was leading 6-4, 4-3, when an obsessed Steffi Graf fan ran from the crowd to the court during the break and stabbed Seles between her shoulder blades. She was immediately rushed to the hospital. Her physical injuries took few weeks to heal but she never recaptured the form she had before the stabbing.

During 1994 World Cup, the Colombian team lost 2-1 to their American hosts as Andreas Escobar had scored in his own goal, leading to their elimination. Escobar returned to his country after his team's exit. On July 2, 1994, Escobar went to a bar with his friends. His friends split up and at approximately 3 am, when Escobar was alone in the parking lot, three men appeared and started arguing with him. Two of the men took out handguns and shot him six times.

New Zealand cricket team had called off its Pakistan tour midway after a suicide bomber attacked outside their hotel in Karachi. Fourteen people were killed, including 11 French Navy experts, two Pakistanis and the Pakistan team's physiotherapist.

Former Australian batsman David Hookes, then the coach of Victoria, was celebrating his team's win over South Australia, outside a Hotel, in Melbourne when a brawl ensued on January 18, 2004. A bouncer named Zdravco Micevic was charged for assaulting Hookes, who suffered head injuries and died a day later.

On its way to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by around a dozen gunmen, who fired rockets, grenades and multiple rounds of ammunition at the cricketers and their police escorts on March 3, 2009. Eight were killed and six injured. Dilshan and Samaraweera were shot. Pakistan has not hosted an international team since.

Six Indian cricketers got involved in an argument with fans at a pub in Saint Lucia on May 13, 2010. It happened at a bar where Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Piyush Chawla and Rohit Sharma had turned up. Nehra and four others were having a drink while Yuvraj was trying to get them onto the dance floor, just after the team had bowed out of the World T20. Some Indian fans got aggressive on seeing the cricketers enjoy themselves and abused them. The fans told the players it was disappointing to see them drink and party after their poor performance. This agitated Nehra and led to a scuffle. Zaheer too jumped in but Yuvraj stepped in to calm things down. 

New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder was severely beaten up in Christchurch on March 28, 2013. There was a brief altercation involving Ryder and at least two persons when he stepped outside a bar. Ryder then crossed the road to a nearby fast-food outlet where he was attacked by one of the people from the initial confrontation. He went into coma with a fractured skull and serious internal injuries.
