Even before the devastating 2010 earthquake, Haiti had only 3,000 doctors for 10 million people. And since the disaster, the Caribbean nation's need for quality health care has been even greater.

Medical professionals came to help from all over the world, but the question arose again and again: What's the best way for a doctor to treat a patient when the latest equipment isn't available? How about when almost nothing is available?

Two American doctors created Colleagues In Care, a nonprofit program that uses IBM's SmartCloud. Their goal is to come up with a system of best possible medical practices for doctors who work in places where there isn't much money or many materials. Doctors can now share their medical expertise with each other, no matter where they are. In the long run, Colleagues In Care hopes this database will save lives all over the world.

Watch this video that shows how the doctors are working in Haiti, and see how their worldwide partnership is saving lives.

Read about how other health groups, such as Boston Children's Hospital, are using IBM's SmartCloud to improve the health of the critically ill.
