Most paid versions of free apps aren't worth the money. But here are the ones that are

Is Spotify Premium worth it? Spotify Premium is worth the money, especially if streaming music on the subway is leaving you with a bigger phone bill from going over on your monthly data usage.

Is Hulu Plus worth it? Hulu Plus' offerings aren't as in-depth or as mainstream as Netflix, and Hulu's ad-free version costs a few dollars more than the perpetually ad-free Netflix. So if you're looking to pay for only one streaming service, you're better off sticking with Netflix and using the free version of Hulu to catch up on recent broadcast TV.

What's included in the free version? The free version of Tinder allows users to swipe right or left on about 100 potential matches per 12 hours, Super Like (which essentially only indicates to a person that you really want to match with them) one person a day, and have conversations in the app.

Tinder Plus, which costs $9.99 if you're under 30 and $19.99 if you're over 30 and now has over a million subscribers, gives users an unlimited amount of swipes per day, an unlimited number of Super Likes, allows users to go back to an old swipe if they regret their right or left choice, and doesn't have any ads. Tinder Plus users can also change their location to find potential matches in different states or countries.

Is Tinder Plus worth it? Unless you're a Super Like fiend or have your heart set on finding a mate across the ocean, the free version will more than suffice in finding you some potential dates in your city.

What's included in the free version? Evernote recently significantly cut back on what its free version offered. Now, free users can only sync their notes across two devices, in addition to writing notes and collaborating on notes with others.

Plus, which costs $34.99 per year (up from $29.99), and Premium, which costs $69.99 per year (up from $49.99). In addition to the basic functionality, Plus allows users to turn emails into notes, access notes without Wi-Fi, and add a passcode. Premium has the functionality of free and Plus, while also allowing users to turn notes into presentations, get recommendations on content related to notes, annotate PDFs, and scan and digitize business cards.

Is LastPass Premium worth it? Especially with the recent wave of hacks, LastPass Premium is worth the cost, which is cheaper than most subscription apps, if only for the option of multi-factor security. And having the option to store all of your passwords across all of your devices is preferable to storing them only on one device.

Is Dropbox Pro worth it? Dropbox Pro is probably only worth it if you're sending secure or secret files and if you're using the service regularly. The free version is more than fine for sending family photos and other small daily life documents.

What's included in LinkedIn Premium? LinkedIn Premium has a number of different products. There's the $29.99 a month JobSeeker plan for those who are — wait for it — seeking jobs. There's a $47.99 a month plan aimed at those at an established job but looking to grow. The perks of these accounts include being able to see who's looking at your account, a boost from LinkedIn in searches, and a more advanced search. And there's a $119.95 a month plan for recruiters, which is tailored to help them find the best candidates for a gig.

Is LinkedIn Premium worth it? LinkedIn Premium is probably worth it for LinkedIn-reliant recruiters, who probably can even have their company foot the bill. But people who are looking for a job will probably be just fine with the bread and butter basic plan and some shoe leather networking.

What's included in the free version? The music site's free version allows users to upload their own music and listen to most of SoundCloud's library. There may be a rare ad while you listen.

What's included in SoundCloud Go? SoundCloud entered the music streaming wars in March of this year with its answer to Spotify and Apple Music: SoundCloud Go. The paid subscription, which costs $9.99 when purchased on a computer and $12.99 when purchased inside the app, removes ads and allows users to download songs for offline listening. At launch, SoundCloud Go touted that paying listeners would get access to exclusive songs from a line-up of a high-profile artists, but that hasn't quite panned out as they hoped, the Verge reported.

Is SoundCloud Go worth it? The appeal of SoundCloud over Spotify and Apple Music is its database of original, user-generated, and can't-find-anywhere-else music. Considering those tracks are all included in the free version, it's probably best to keep your $9.99 (or $12.99 if you're buying through the app.)
