The Egg White Delight is coming to McDonald's restaurants.

It's a yolk-free take on the Egg McMuffin, one of McDonald's core items.

The sandwich contains a slice of white cheddar cheese and Canadian bacon on a whole-grain English muffin, and has 260 calories (the Egg McMuffin has 300).

You'll also be able to substitute egg whites on any of McDonald's breakfast sandwiches.

"We’ve been listening to our customers, and they want premium options," a McDonald's spokesman told the Daily Meal. "We can’t just limit egg whites to one menu item. We want to provide variety, and the ability to customize anything. We’ll even not add salt to your fries if you want."

McDonald's tested the sandwich in Austin, TX, and Atlanta, GA last year, and hinted that it could launch nationally in 2013.

McDonald's is counting on the Egg White Delight to be a hit.

Over the past few years, the chain has been focused on adding more health-focused items to its menu, touting smoothies and apple dippers in its marketing. The success of a product like the Egg White Delight will be a great sign for the initiative.

The chain already dominates fast food breakfast and its biggest competitors can't seem get it right. Wendy's, for instance, has been trying for years to get it right. CEO Emil Brolick said that breakfast is "not going to be a top priority" until his team figures out a better way to do it.
