every Sunday at 1:30 pm (IST), since January 1, 1993. The show has a cinematic
name because it started out as a satire on films. Later, it started making
satires on varied social issues as well.

The cop show
that today’s generation has grown up watching is produced by B.P. Singh under Fireworks
Productions. C.I.D is the longest running Hindi show. It has been airing since 21
January, 1998 on Sony. The number of telecasts per week is varied on a continuous
basis. The show also enjoys umpteen reruns of some of its famous episodes.

Rasoi Show (9 years and counting)
This is a
famous Gujarati cookery show that has been running daily since February 7, 2005
on ETV Gujarati. It has completed more than 3000 episodes. It is the longest
running cookery show in India, and the second in world ranking. The show is
produced by Archana Shah and is presented by Lipi Ojha.

The show
that established the careers of every name in the credit roll, and changed the
scale against which Indian shows are judged, ran for more than 8 years. Ekta
Kapoor produced this show under her banner Balaji Telefilms, and ran it through
July 6, 2000 to November 6, 2008 on Star Plus. The show faced several leaps,
plastic surgeries, actor replacements, and an almost immortal character in the
form of the matriarch of the family. You will not be surprised to know that there
were a total of 1833 episodes in Kyunki
Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii (8 years)
This is the
show that gave a tough competition to Kyunki
Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The actors who were a part of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii are still remembered for the
portrayal of their characters. Produced by the same production house and
running on the same channel, this show ran for a complete 8 years from October
16, 2000 to October 9, 2008. There were a total of 1661 episodes in this saga
of a large united family.

The first Hindi comedy show in this list, F.I.R has been riding high on its success ever since its modest beginning 7 years back. This show played a huge role in establishing SAB TV as a leading GEC in Indian television circuit. The story of a quirky female cop, this show is produced by Edit II Productions, and has been running since 31st July, 2006.

Kasautii Zindagii Kay (6+ years)
The show
that gave new meaning to the tried and tested ‘friends-turned-lovers’ formula
ran for a successful 6+ years from October 29, 2001 to February 28, 2008. Produced
by Balaji Telefilms for Star Plus, the show ran for 1400 episodes and was a hit
among the masses.

Balika Vadhu (5 years and counting)
The show that began as a social message against child marriage has certainly lost its original plot since its start on 21 July, 2008. Notably, this hasn’t deterred the production house Sphere Origins from running the daily soap on Colors. Till now, it has completed more than 1550 episodes, and still, neither the channel nor the drama-loving audience are in a mood of letting it go.

Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan (7+ years)
The show was made by Anuradha Prasad under BAG films and saw a successful run from July 15, 2002 to March 13, 2009. In the total of 1,449 episodes that it aired, Kumkum went through many changes, replacements and ups and downs in the lives of the characters, but still the love for audience kept it going strong for 7 long years.
