Welcome to November! A Colorado-based woman spent six months in Europe. If she had to move anywhere, she'd choose this country for its beauty, architecture, and walkability.

This week's dispatch

It's marathon season

It'll be nearly perfect running weather on Sunday when the New York City Marathon kicks off in Staten Island.

Business Insider's senior reporter Julia Pugachevsky is among the more than 50,000 runners expected to participate in the world's largest marathon. She asked a dietician to help curate the perfect diet to prepare for the big race.

Sports dietician Jena Brown, who specializes in endurance racing, told Julia to ensure she's eating enough carbs, lean protein, and fluids. Doing so will improve her physical performance and mental agility.

While most runners look forward to the carb-loading part of their training, Brown suggested not to overdo it the night before the race — avoid anything too rich and spicy. Instead, opt for a baked potato with little toppings or pasta in a simple tomato sauce.

A sound pre-marathon diet is likely routine for the race's previous winners who are defending their titles, including men's professional winner Tamirat Tola. Other familiar faces will include Olympian silver medalist Bashir Abdi, "Bachelorette" star Tayshia Adams, and comedian and bestselling author Phoebe Robinson.

Good luck, runners!

O grandfather, where art thou?

Raising a child is a huge financial strain: Care for one child can cost between $4,800 and $15,000 a year in the United States. But families who get no childcare help from their grandparents face an additional cost.

Millennial parents say it's exhausting and isolating to raise a young child without the support of their parents. Some have moved states or changed careers to make childcare work. Others have nearly given up on having another child altogether.

The hidden cost of missing grandparents.

Eva Longoria's investment empire

The "Desperate Housewives" actress became the unlikely savior of "John Wick" when she provided $6 million to close a gap in financing.

At the time, she says, she had "no idea" how investing worked. But in the 10 years since, Longoria has built an investment empire that includes soccer clubs, a tequila brand, and her own production company. "I want to be making money while I'm sleeping," she said.

Inside Longoria's "day job."

The world's best golf courses

David Weiss has spent over 30 years traveling to and writing about golf courses. Of the more than 200 greens he's visited, he's picked favorites.

Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California, overlooks crashing surf and craggy rocks. Further south, you can see the glimmering Sea of Cortez from all 18 holes at Cabo del Sol in Mexico.

Millennials face down 40

Millennials born between 1981 and 1984 are staring down a scary new milestone: middle age. Everyone in that range has hit 40, or is about to — and they're kind of freaking out.

Many are turning 40 after only recently reaching typical adult milestones like marriage and kids. The delay means that millennials' mid-life crisis looks totally different from that of their boomer parents.

Millennials are sweating their age.
