Google doesn't always promote or include all of its Android apps in Android phones.
Just take Google's Messenger app. It's the best text messaging app for Android phones, and it doesn't come pre-installed with any Android phone, even Google's own Nexus devices.
Another example is Meter, a delightfully quirky, minimalist, interactive wallpaper that basically shows your battery level, Wi-Fi/cell signal and how many notifications you have in a more colorful and animated way than the notifications bar.
It's made by Google's Creative Lab division, the think-tank where certain Google staff have license to create pretty much whatever they want without worrying if whatever they make will be popular or successful.
The wallpaper only shows you one metric at a time, and it cycles between the three data points when you wake your phone from sleep or go back to your home screen from an open app.
Meter loses some of its functionality by not letting you choose a single specific metric to keep as your wallpaper: You'll always be shown a different metric when you wake your phone or close an app. And there's no option to customize the colors or shapes; what you see is what you get.
Still, it's a visually appealing way to glance at some useful information about your phone. The beautifully minimalist wallpaper brings Google's signature bold and pastel color-schemes to your Android phone, which should please any Google fan.
