Maybe the US economy is not doomed to slide into a recession.

Last week, we laid out the bears' case that worrying signs are popping up in the economy and a US recession may be around the corner.

While it's always good to be on guard, it seems that most of the evidence supports the scenario that the economic expansion still has a ways to go.

"We believe a US recession remains years away," Goldman Sachs Asset Management wrote recently, reflecting the broader consensus among those on Wall Street.

In a note to clients earlier this month, BMO Capital's Brian Belski laid out reasons to "stay bullish."

"Recessions kill bull markets but key indicators suggest economic improvement," Belski wrote, highlighting six metrics that show no signs of imminent recession.
