In my experiences with hardcore bikers, I've met three main breeds - the Cruiser, the Racer and the Lover. The Cruiser loves to take it easy. Biking is like meditation to him. He kicks off his Bullet/Avenger, gets some wind in the hair, and loves road trips. The Racer loves speed, on the streets or in a circuit. The red line calls him, and if given the option, he'll start his Duke 390/
While the love for two-wheelers is a constant across bikers, the Lover is a different league altogether when it comes to bikes. He treats it as an extension of himself. He eats, sleeps and essentially lives in his garage. He dreams of building his own bike from scratch some day, and has a level of faith and dedication that can put many lifelong marriages to shame. While that's all fine, custom biking is an expensive addiction.
Cheap and custom don't go in the same sentence. You end up paying a hefty premium to get a bike, and then get it custom-made to your specifications. Alternatively, if you have an old bike, you can get it revamped, but you'll often end up paying as much as a new bike anyway. Not to mention the lack of after-sales support and roadside assistance. Needless to say, most would advice you to stay away from custom bikes, pointing out rightfully that its not a 'sensible' option. True, but we're not talking sense here. This is about owning a unique piece of automobile that you'll have for the rest of your life, and you can do that, without breaking a bank. So why not!
