20 of the biggest science stories of 2015
Big things happened in the science world in 2015.
Researchers edited the DNA of human embryos, showing that doing so was possible. Their work had flaws, but it demonstrated that we're capable of using incredibly powerful new tools to reshape the building blocks of life in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago.
Elon Musk's SpaceX launched a rocket that was able to carry a satellite into space before turning around and landing back on Earth, showing that re-using rockets is feasible. That's essential if humanity is to become an interplanetary species.
And that's just the start - we also found traces of water on Mars, planned ways to mine asteroids, and so much more.
The team at Futurism has compiled an infographic with 20 of the biggest stories in the science and tech worlds that happened over the past year. They focus on the development of artificial intelligence, space exploration, drones, genetic editing, and the winner of their first "Futurist of the Year" award - fittingly, Elon Musk. (They also give props to a robot who gave not a full-fledged TED talk, but a TEDx talk - still pretty impressive for an android.)
Check out their picks below, or see more at Futurism's "Year in Science" page.
