Macau is famous for its casinos and gambling tourism, but it is also home to some of the world's finest restaurants, with 16 being awarded at least one star. The Eight — which offers traditional Chinese cuisine playfully presented — is one of the city's best places to eat, and currently holds three Michelin stars.

Berlin attracts famous chefs from all over the world, and currently hosts 19 Michelin-starred eateries. One of the best is the two-star Restaurant Tim Raue, which serves up western dishes heavily influenced by Asian flavours.

Barcelona continues to lead the way as the most Michelin-starred city in Spain, with 25 Michelin-starred restaurants. Lasarte, which focuses on bold presentation and contemporary cooking, is its only three-star venue.

San Francisco has no shortage of fine dining options, with a total of 34 Michelin starred restaurants. One of these is Saison, which serves refined, modern cuisine in a casual setting.

London is known for hosting the UK's best restaurants, and 66 hold one michelin star or more. Award-winning chefs like Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal and Michel Roux Jr all have Michelin-starred outposts here, including Ramsay's flagship venue Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea.

Hong Kong's reputation as one of the world's financial hubs mean there is plenty of demand for upscale dining and cuisine from all over the world, and 61 restaurants hold at least one star. Amber — a two-star restaurant which made it into the 50 best restaurants ranking, is run by Dutch head chef Richard Ekkebus, who serves contemporary cooking.

New York is the most Michelin-starred US city, with 77 restaurants receiving awards. Six of its restaurants have been awarded the top accolade of three stars for the 2017 Michelin guide. Eleven Madison Park has one of the biggest reputations in the city, and came third in the World's 50 Best Restaurants 2016.

Japan is rapidly becoming the world's top food destination, with three of its major cities making it into the top five alone. The city is home to 91 Michelin-starred restaurants. One of the best is Taian, which has three stars and serves decadent takes on Japanese food like this wagyu beef and red wine braised pork.

Paris is the foodie capital of Europe. The city is now home to 100 Michelin-starred restaurants since the Michelin updated its Paris guide for 2017. One of the most revered places to eat is L'Arpège, a classically french restaurant which came 19th in this year's The World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking.

Kyoto is home to some of the oldest restaurants in the world. There are 96 restaurants holding at least one star, and seven establishments currently hold three Michelin stars including Hyotei, which has been serving traditional Japanese cuisine since the 17th century.

When it comes to reputations, Tokyo is the food capital of the world, with more than 225 restaurants holding at least one Michelin star. Usuki Fugu Yamadaya is one of Tokyo's most revered restaurants, with three stars to its name. It specialises in Fugu, which can be deadly if it's not prepared correctly.
