14 Stabbed At A Texas Community College

KPRC HoustonFourteen people have been stabbed at a campus of Lone Star Community College in Texas, according to paramedics and reported by KPRC Houston.

The male assailant, who appeared to be a student wearing all black and hearing aids, has been arrested.

According to police, 14 people were stabbed; four were transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann and two were taken by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann. The rest were taken to North Cypress Hospital. Two people refused treatment.

A witness told ABC News affiliate KTRK-TV that several students were stabbed in the face and neck.

Michelle Alvarez saw the attacker running toward other students and tried to back out of the way. She said she didn't even feel it as he swiped her neck. There was a small red line running down her wind pipe.

"He came running and swinging at my neck, as I tried to get out of the way," she said.

KPRC Houston reported that the assailant used an X-Acto knife — a short, sharp blade mounted on a pen-like body that is normally used for crafting and hobbies.

An emergency bulletin was initially said that two armed suspects were on campus, but police now believe there was only one attacker running from building to building before a student tackled and helped subdue the suspect.

The incident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. at the health sciences building.

Police say that the campus, which serves about 19,000 students and is north of Houston, is now safe. The Chronicle notes that investigators are trying to determine motive, but at this point the victims appear to be randomly chosen.

The AP notes that three months ago there was a shooting at another Lone Star campus in which two people were hurt and the suspected gunman was charged with aggravated assault.
