The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex declined by 158 points in morning trade today. The slide was led by losses ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Dr Reddy's Laboratories and State bank of India. The 50-share Nifty index also felt the heat, and slipped below its psychological support level of 8800, owing to losses in banks, FMCG and IT stocks. It was trading at 8783 – down by 25 points (0.30%). It reached a high of 8808.10 and a low of 8772.15 in intra-day trade.
Asian markets, too, have been on a slide after the release of weekend Chinese data. All these recent happenings have led to some serious concerns, the primary one being: where is the world's second-largest economy headed?
