Chef David Santos took to Kickstarter to fund a restaurant after his Portuguese-inspired supper club, Um Segredo, became a wild success.
Fifty-one backers pledged $25,250 on the site, more than double Santos' goal of $10,000.
The cuisine earned a star from New York Times' food critic Pete Wells, who said, "Nothing about this meal at Louro ... seemed self-indulgent or self-impressed ... The chef, David Santos, wasn’t trying to show off to his customers. He wanted to host a party for them."
Santos also recently made headlines when he introduced an emu egg to Louro's menu. That dish will set you back $90.
