The New Year is right upon us and it’s time to explore the new ware right off the fashion runways. Of course, the best fashion advice one can dole out is ‘wear what you feel comfortable in.’ But in order to make a
style statement in 2014, keeping track of the latest trends is a must-do. If you are keen to know what’s going to rule the ramp and ideally, your
wardrobe, here’s a dekko at what’s hot, what’s not, what’s gonna sizzle and what will fizzle out in this year’s fashion circuit. Happy trend hunting!
1. Colour & Print Pantone has announced
Radiant Orchid as the
colour of 2014. This vibrant, regal and enigmatic
shade of purple suits all skin tones – so go ahead and make it a part if your wardrobe this year. The rosy undertone of the hue radiates on the skin and produces a healthy glow when donned by both men and
women. Pushing off the
neons, pretty and girly pastels like baby blue, pale lavender and subtle yellow will be back this year. Another hue on Pantone’s list for 2014 is the dazzling blue.
Radical prints,
animal prints and delicate
lace work will also be hot this season.
2. Wide-legged trousers Skinny
jeans will bid adieu and the trend will be replaced by
palazzo pants. These
high-waisted bottoms are not only chic and easy on style but also make one look taller and leaner. To add variety, go for the
kalidaar variants and fabric choices that many fashion designers are offering.
3. Top talk Crop tops will make it real big in 2014. Dare to bare this year in these chic and sexy mid-riff revealing, trendy crop tops.
Bolero tops in various lengths, especially with asymmetric hemlines, will be a
hot fashion statement.
Boxy tops,
boy jackets and
bra tops will be hot fav among the daring lot.
4. Anarkali out
The layered-and-flared
anarkali suits, so fervently embraced by all Indian women when it comes to ethnic looks, will take a back seat this year. Instead, well-fitted
kurtas and
straight silhouettes that cut down on volume will take over the fashion scene.
5. Saree style
Heavily embroidered and cumbersome
sarees are out this season and will be replaced by pre-stitched drapes in textured fabrics, especially the
pallu. Ditch the traditional
body suit and sport a T-shirt/shirt underneath to bring in a sexy twist. Some of the mainstream designers who are busy popularising this fad are
Sabyasachi Mukherjee,
Masaba and
Payal Khandwala.
6. Go beyond the ‘mini’ Not comfy flaunting that tiny mini? Good news is that knee-length skirts will become a rage this year. Slim ‘n’ sexy
pencil skirts will keep getting attention and ankle-length skirts will rise high on popularity charts. Something that’s longer than a
midi and shorter than the ankle-touch will be the preferred length. So make sure you tuck away those flowing
kaftans.
7. Pleat play Borrow this trend from your man as it’s going to get hot this year. Be it on your
LBD, skirt or the
romantic dress, pleats are perfect to add a touch of femininity to the silhouette.
8. Tress talk Short pixie cut will be the hot pick for women looking for a drastic makeover. Wide-swept-up dos will be the popular choice to embrace for the casual and messy look that oozes sensuality and charm at the same time. If you wanna keep it subtle, go for the good old
braid. Try out different things till you come to the one that flatters your face.
9. Make-up mantra It’s time to get adventurous with
colours – be it lips, eyes or nails. Most of the brands are coming up with colourful options – so check them out.
10. Finally, the dazzlers One thing that will never go out of fashion in India is
jewellery. But style and patterns keep changing as per current trends. This year, designs inspired by nature, history and abstract art are going to be popular. But
gold is still out of bounds for many and classy
silver may soon become the preferred metal.
