Catalonia has "won the right to statehood." Just under 90% of voters backed Catalonia's independence from Spain, results of Sunday's referendum showed.

The euro is sliding. The currency trades down 0.68% at 1.1734 following the results of the Catalan referendum.

Trump had an unusual plan for trade negotiations with South Korea. Trump told his top trade negotiator, Robert Lighthizer, to portray him as "crazy" in order to get more out of trade negotiations with South Korea, Axios reports.

Stock markets around the world are higher. Japan's Nikkei (+0.22%) paced the gains in Asia and Britain's FTSE (+0.51%) leads in Europe. The S&P 500 is set to open higher by 0.18% near 2,523.

US economic data flows. Markit US Manufacturing PMI and ISM manufacturing will be released at 9:45 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. ET, respectively.
