Good morning! We're due for a wonderful day of weather here in New York - Sunny with a high of 82. Let's look at the news:

  1. Twitter delivered earnings that crushed expectations across the board. The stock went crazy after hours jumping over 30%.
  2. After the company reported earnings we talked to Twitter CEO Dick Costolo about the results. He told us that the World Cup drove engagement, but not new users. He also talked about his plan for messaging in Twitter.
  3. Outspoken Yahoo shareholder Eric Jackson has a post up at Forbes where he just nukes Marissa Mayer's leadership. Until now, he's been an advocate for her. It seems like something big has changed.
  4. Amazon wrote a detailed blog post about its fight with Hachette. In the post it outlined exactly what it's fighting for - lower e-book prices - and why it thinks lower e-book prices are important - more sales, more money to authors. It's worth a read.
  5. Marco Arment, former Tumblr CTO, current podcast app maker, and influential Apple writer, has a big essay on the state of the App Store. He's not a fan, he thinks Apple needs to kill top lists, and improve search.
  6. Facebook is trying yet another photo messaging app. This time, it's Instagram launching something called "Bolt" which allows users to send photo messages. It's like TapTalk, which is a fairly popular chat app.
  7. Facebook killed Gifts, which was its attempt at getting people to buy gifts for friends through Facebook. Some day someone will figure out e-commerce on social networks. However, that day is not today.
  8. Flipkart, an e-commerce site based in India that was started by former Amazon employees, has raised $1 billion in new funding.
  9. More competition for Amazon! The CEO of Quidsi, which was the parent of Diapers.com, which sold to Amazon, has raised $55 million for a new e-commerce site.
