We know that you’ve had your iPhone and iPad for a while and we also know that you haven’t gone through the manual that’s probably still in the box your device came in. But you still know a great deal about your device and that’s the thing about gadgets, you need to play around to learn how to truly use them and to personalize them to your liking. Here are 10 clever settings that will make using your iPhone or iPad more enjoyable.
1. Efficient Alerts
In order to never miss a call or an important text, get better alerts when your phone ringer is off. Just like how you assign ringtones to contacts, you can also set custom vibrations for incoming calls and messages. So even with your phone on vibration, you can know exactly who is calling by the contact’s vibration pattern on your iPhone.
Go to Settings >> Sounds >> Ringtone >> Vibration. Or from your contacts list, press Edit and select the Vibration option for your contacts.

Your iPhone and iPad do so much more than make or receive calls. And typing directly on the touch screen for a long period of time can be a bit difficult and if you would prefer to use a standard keyboard, Apple lets you use keyboards made by other companies or by third party providers, as long as you're using iOS 9.3.2.Go to Settings >> General >> Keyboard >> Keyboards >> Add a New Keyboard.
4. VoiceOver
Your gadget can read the words on your Apple device out loud with VoiceOver. VoiceOver will not only read each letter as you're typing a text or email, but it will tell you who's calling you, how much battery life is left, what apps are you using and more. It can also read directions to you in maps, have your camera give you description of the photo and much more.
To turn it on, go to Settings >> General >> Accessibility, and turn on VoiceOver. You have the option to practice with VoiceOver, including setting a speaking rate. Once enabled, to use VoiceOver from your iOS device, press the Home button three times.
