Sushmita Sen
She is not only one of the most beautiful women in
this universe but also possesses a big and beautiful heart. In an interview
with Simi Garewal, Sush mentioned that she had decided to adopt a child when
she was just 18. However, the adoption laws didn’t allow a single woman to
adopt a child and she had to fight a long battle at the end of which she
adopted Renee. Sushmita was 25 at that time. Earning accolades for being a woman
who had made history, she again adopted a three-month-old baby girl, Alisah,
back in 2010. This time, too, she had to face a legal battle because the Hindu Adoptions
and Maintenance Act (1956) forbade the adoption of a child if the adopter already
had a biological or adopted child of the same sex. Sushmita, however, challenged
this Act in the court and finally, Bombay High Court allowed her to adopt Alisah.
Salim Khan-Helen
One of the most widely known and respected families of
Bollywood has an adopted daughter, too. Salim Khan, a renowned scriptwriter and
father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, had adopted a girl child after his
marriage with actress-dancer Helen. The couple had named her Arpita and now she
is a regular in the social circles of Mumbai.
Mithun Chakraborty
This superstar of the yesteryears is also a superstar in real life. Not so long
ago, he heard that a newborn baby girl was abandoned on the streets of Kolkata.
The girl was found in a garbage bin. This news moved Mithun Da and he decided
to adopt the baby and named her Ishani. That newborn baby has now grown up to
be a pretty lady and is seen accompanying her daddy dearest and her brothers
Mimoh, Rimoh and Namashi on various social occasions.
Raveena Tandon

award-winning actress, who still sets many a heart racing, has already become a
grandmamma? Yes, you have read it right. Raveena had reportedly adopted her

Probably the first-ever single male to adopt a child
in India,
the celebrity choreographer Sandip Soparkar is the proud father of Arjun, whom
he adopted after a long row of legal battles. It is not usual to find single
men adopting kids although the Indian laws don’t forbid it. Soparkar’s novel
approach might not have gone down too well and that could be the reason why he had
to fight a long legal battle to get the custody of Arjun who is with him for
around 7 years now. His adopted son was also present when he married model-cum-dancer
Jesse Randhawa.
Dibakar Banerjee
He is the director of Khosla Ka Ghosla and became
the talk of the town after directing the critically acclaimed movie, Love
Sex Aur Dhokha. Soon after, Banerjee had enough reasons to celebrate his
personal life as well when he and his wife Richa Puranesh welcomed a baby girl
in their life. Since then, the producer-director has become a doting dad to his
daughter Ira.
Samir Soni and Neelam Kothari
When Samir Soni married his long-time love Neelam
right after his stint with Bigg Boss
Season 4, everybody was waiting for the couple to announce the good news.
But due to some complications, they decided to adopt a baby instead of going
for a surrogate mother. As Samir comes from an all-boys family, the couple chose
to adopt a daughter and after a few months of formalities, they welcomed Ahana to
their home and in their life.
Nikhil Advani
This famous director of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kal
Ho Na Ho adopted a girl child and named her Keya, who is now aged 8. But
that’s not all. More than a decade ago, Advani had adopted a child from Mumbai
streets and paid for his education. However, the child called Pathan was not
keen to pursue his studies. The news that Nikhil Adavni has an 18-year-old
adopted son never came out until he was arrested for threatening to kill Advani
and abduct Keya. Pathan had reportedly grown quite possessive of all the
financial support he had been getting from Nikhil Advani and hence the
misdemeanour.
Subhash Ghai
Bollywood showman Subhash Ghai has never been too
vocal about his personal life. But he had adopted Meghna, the daughter of his
younger brother, years ago. Meghna is now married to Rahul Puri and they are now
taking care of Whistling Woods, Ghai’s film and media institute based in
Mumbai. Ghai has also been blessed with Muskaan, his biological daughter, who
