<ul class="summary-list"><li>A woman on TikTok shared a story of getting her IUD fitted.</li><li>She said the contraceptive device was placed on a nerve which sent her body into labor.</li></ul>In a recent TikTok, a creator named Holly Smallwood told the story of when she went to get an IUD fitted — intense pain that she said was comparable to giving birth.In the video, which has been <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@hollyyywood_/video/7173788929072811310" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viewed 1.1 millions times</a>, Smallwood explains how she was told by her doctor that she "went into labor" with the IUD and was essentially experiencing contractions.According <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiktok-iud-viral-videos-myths-and-misconceptions-2021-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to gynecologists and sexual-health experts</a>, while fitting an IUD can be uncomfortable, it should not be severely painful. Experts told Insider that severe cramping of the uterus is a possible outcome of the procedure.Smallwood's video was part of a trend of women on TikTok talking about their sometimes-traumatic experiences when getting IUDs inserted.Smallwood said the nurse told her she could experience some cramping but that it would ease after about 10 minutes. However, the pain got so bad, Smallwood said she started vomiting and passed out. That's when "all hell broke loose," she said, and her arms and legs went numb."Then I start to feel something that I've only ever heard explained in movies," she said. "I don't even know how I knew what it was, but I knew that I was having contractions."Finally, a doctor came in and inspected Smallwood, she said and decided to remove the IUD immediately."So she does an emergency extraction," Smallwood said. He said the story highlighted how it's "important to take women's pain seriously." <h2>Extreme cramping is caused by uterine contractions and is a known side effect</h2>IUDs come in two types: hormonal, which release chemicals into the body to prevent pregnancy, and copper, which makes the womb an inhospitable environment for a fetus.Dr. Yaa Oheema, a physician based in London, told Insider it's unlikely that someone's body would literally go into labor from hitting a nerve, because the type of nerves in the uterus "wouldn't cause symptoms like that." But there is no way to know for sure.Intense cramping can be a side effect of getting an IUD fitted. It's hard to predict who this will happen to, she said."All women are made in different shapes and sizes and so therefore your uterus will be made in different shapes and sizes too," she said. "The complications or cramping that woman [in the TikTok] was experiencing isn't very common."People have different pain thresholds when they get an IUD fitted, and doctors have different levels of experience and knowledge. Health issues such as uterine polyps, fibroids, and endometriosis can also increase the level of pain someone will feel. So there's no way to tell for sure how your body will react."Sometimes there are user errors, so maybe a doctor may mis-measure the depth or the width of the uterus and then insert a device that's the wrong size," Dr Oheema added. "So all those things could lead to cramping, which is probably what the woman experienced."Dr Janet Barter, another expert, told Insider that uterine contractions are <a href="https://www.fsrh.org/standards-and-guidance/documents/fsrh-statement-pain-associated-with-insertion-of-intrauterine/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">what cause discomfort</a> after an IUD is fitted. Barter is the the president of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare at Britain's Royal College of the Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.She said there is some evidence <a href="https://www.fsrh.org/news/fsrh-press-release-recommendations-iud-pain-relief-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">taking painkillers before the procedure</a> can help, and that further research is underway.<h2>Both doctors and patients can learn from people's experiences on social media</h2>Contraception is a hot-button issue on the internet, with people who take hormonal birth control or have devices fitted increasingly speaking up about side effects and medical procedures.Oheema said she thinks this is helpful for both patients and doctors. Seeing people share what happened to them helps doctors have more of a "personal touch," she said."Unless I have an IUD myself, I wouldn't know how severe the bleeding is or how severe the initial cramping is," she said. "If I'm scrolling on TikTok or if I'm on Facebook and I see a video like this, it allows me to become more empathetic because I'm seeing what women could potentially go through."

A bench comprising Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh said, "We direct that if any import is made by any person of this drug (Amphotericin B), it shall be allowed on a bond furnished by the importer without the actual duty being paid, till a decision is taken by the Centre." The bench observed that the medicine is essential to save lives of several thousands of people suffering from mucormycosis. In the backdrop of shortage of the medicine in the country, the <keyword id="6355392" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="High-Court">High Court</keyword> emphasised that the Centre should seriously consider waiving customs duty for a limited period or till issues with shortage of medicine exists. On the aspect of the bond for importing the medicine, the High Court said any person can import Amphotericin B and if any import is made by any person, it should be cleared by accepting the bond from the importer without actual payment of duty till the Centre takes a final decision in the matter. However, only two of the four sessions of JEE Mains examination have been conducted till now. <keyword id="581232" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword>'s Senior Examination Director, Sadhana Parashar, said the first session of the JEE Mains examination was held in February this year and more than 6,20,000 students appeared. The second session was held in March with more than 5,56,000 students appearing. The third session of the JEE Mains examination was scheduled to be held from April 27 to 30, but had to be postponed in view of the second wave of pandemic. In the sane way, the fourth session to be held on May 24-28 was also postponed. According to the Education Ministry, students will be informed 15 days in advance before the test is conducted. The results of the JEE Main Exam Session 2 which were held in March have been already declared. These exams were conducted in 12 foreign cities and 334 Indian cities. Due to the second wave of Covid-19, the Union Education Ministry had decided to postpone all offline examinations scheduled in the month of May. This decision will be applicable to all central higher educational institutions across the country. Such higher educational institutions, which receive financial aid from the government, will also have to postpone these too. JEE Advanced exam postponed due to surge in COVID-19 cases in the country

Twitter on Monday reiterated to comply with the <keyword id="11355317" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-it-intermediary-guidelines">new IT intermediary guidelines</keyword> in India as the <keyword id="6355014" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-high-court">Delhi High Court</keyword> issued notice on a plea against the non-compliance by Twitter India and the Twitter Inc. The plea, moved by advocate Amit Acharya, urged the <keyword id="6355392" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="High-Court">High Court</keyword> to issue direction to the Centre to pass necessary instruction to Twitter India and Twitter to appoint resident grievance officer under Rule 4 of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Ethics Code) Rules 2021 without any delay. The High Court issued notice to the Centre and Twitter, seeking their stand on the plea. A <keyword id="10084554" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="twitter-spokesperson">Twitter spokesperson</keyword> told <keyword id="105681" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IANS">IANS</keyword> that as stated earlier, the micro-blogging platform strives to comply with applicable law in India. "We continue to be strictly guided by principles of transparency, a commitment to empowering every voice on the service, and protecting freedom of expression and privacy under the Indian law," the Twitter spokesperson added. While Facebook, WhatsApp, <keyword id="6355629" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword>, Telegram, <keyword id="28120" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Linkedin">LinkedIn</keyword> etc have either fully or partially complied with the new IT rules, Twitter is yet to follow suit. Twitter last week requested the IT Ministry to consider a minimum of three-month extension in order for the company to implement the new intermediary guidelines. Twitter, which witnessed a police raid on its offices in Delhi and Gurugram early this week related to the alleged Congress toolkit controversy, reaffirmed that it continues to accept grievances from users and law enforcement via its existing grievance redressal channel available under the new IT Rules. The company spokesperson had said that it plans to advocate for changes to elements of these regulations that inhibit free, open public conversation. "We will continue our constructive dialogue with the Indian government and believe it is critical to adopt a collaborative approach. It is the collective responsibility of elected officials, industry, and civil society to safeguard the interests of the public," the spokesperson said. The new rules notified in the gazette of India on February 25 under the Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules, 2021, came into effect from May 26.
