One of these advertisements was taken up suo motu by ASCI as well,” tells Manisha Kapoor, Secretary General, ASCI. Rest of the complaints filed by consumers against White Hat Jr’s advertisements were not upheld. However, one of its advertisements could be in potential violation of The Emblems and Name (Prevention of Improper use) Act. The complainant has been asked to approach the government. White Hat Jr was quick to withdraw the ads after ASCI approached it. “In recent times some advertisements of the company have come under scrutiny on social media, and ASCI has been tagged. The ASCI team has connected with the advertiser on these ads, and we are given to understand that some of the advertisements referred to on social media are old and have already been withdrawn. The advertiser also has assured ASCI of their cooperation in adhering to the ASCI code going forward,” says Kapoor. ASCI asks BYJU’s White Hat Jr to withdraw its social ads for making misleading claims

<ul><li>The forced closure of thousands of schools across India and the subsequent shift to <keyword id="6379645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-Education">online education</keyword> is affecting the mental health of children. </li><li>And that’s not the only issue that’s worrying. A large proportion of children do not even have access to online education. </li><li>In India, only 24% of households possess smartphones, while 11.5% of households have a computer with an Internet connection.</li></ul>When schools were first shut temporarily in March as a precautionary step against COVID-19 spread, Navya — a class 9th student from Rajasthan — and many others like her were happy about not going to school, doing homework. For them, the pandemic had advanced their summer holiday, and they were excited about the prospects of extended leave. But this small bubble of happiness burst soon enough, once the nationwide lockdown got extended, and it became a reality that going back to schools won’t be possible anytime soon. This forced closure of thousands of schools across India and the subsequent shift to online education is impacting children’s mental health. “For teachers, the first challenge is to maintain the unwavering attention of a 7 to a 9-year old child on the screen. This is exacerbated by the fact that online classes are a new learning method, implemented in the first term of the academic year. Another challenge is to ensure participation from all students and keep them 'actively' engaged for the entire duration of the virtual class, " said Sudeshna Chatterjee, Director Principal, EuroSchool Airoli. Moreover, since there are no physical activities that they can engage in, most of the kids remain glued to the screen all day long for playing video games or watching cartoon shows. “Concentration is a big trouble for young children. Adding to that, most children feel ignored as they feel cut off from a teacher. Teachers, too are, struggling to engage with the children and see them all at once. So there is the issue of teaching becoming a one-sided affair. As homework shifts online, increased screen time is another unwanted side effect,” the mother of a 4-year old child told Business Insider India. The Indian government recently capped the duration and the number of sessions in a day for students — allowing only 30 minutes of online class for pre-primary students, and two online sessions of up to 45 minutes each from standard one to eight. Being cooped up inside their homes for long periods, and lack of physical activities or inability to play with their friends is taking a toll on mental and physical health. Students are complaining about frequent headaches, eye-related problems, and back pain now more than ever. “The new way of learning is difficult to adapt for the kids, my 10-year-old does things on his own, like logging in and out of the class but he keeps complaining it is not like school, and he misses his friends and physical activity. At times, I do catch him with the camera off, or browsing something else,” Batul Munim, the mother of two boys (ages 6 and 10), told Business Insider India. Munim says his son has had several meltdowns since May-end once the ‘original vacation’ period got over. “Every other sentence would start with: Mom, if we are in school, then this would happen.” She further adds that online lessons have been more challenging for her six-year-old son, who wants to escape after every class. “He is sleepy, hungry, and disinterested, or sometimes it is plain boredom,” she added. “The physical play that students would have when they are in an outdoor system; that thing is not there in a flat system. It is definitely affecting health, and no social interaction is adding more to this. When students go to school, they have recess or lunch breaks to meet people and chat. But in an online class, students cannot chat,” Dr. Geeta Dalal, a ‎Psychologist, Special Educator &amp; Dyslexia Therapist, told Business Insider India. Dalal adds that the current situation is tough because not everyone can sit and study alone, “Man is a social animal, and this COVID-19 (lockdown) has put people in the shell. All the measures that are being taken are valid. But it is also understandable that the frustration levels are high, and this situation is something where parents cannot do anything about it. Everything has become virtual now - from school to play dates.” She believes that this is the only option both children and parents have right now. Thus, it becomes difficult to ensure progress of the child. Regular test, which use to help determine student's growth, are also not adding much value. According to French Professor Jyoti Chhabria, "progressive tests cannot rule out cheating by some students. Hence, the scores may not give the true picture of a student's potential," Chhabria told Business Insider India. I find that sometimes the teacher is waking up half of the kids, sometimes the kids are unmuting themselves (and telling the teachers - you are not visible). More than the teachers, parents are struggling to make their kids sit in the class. I really do not feel that these (online) classes are suitable for primary students,” Niti Garg, a working professional, and a mother told Business Insider. But this is not the only problem that is worrying. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A pop-up Christian nightclub is gaining traction among a young, diverse crowd looking for community.</li><li>The club, which plays religious rap and hip-hop, wants to counter the corny Christian stereotype.</li></ul>The young crowd at a Nashville nightclub was ready to dance under the strobe lights to a throbbing mix of hip-hop, rap and Latin beats. But first they gathered to pray and praise God.The rules were announced on the dance floor by a mic-carrying emcee to more than 200 clubgoers blanketed by thick smoke machine fog: "Rule No. 1: No twerking. Second rule: No drinking. And a third rule: No smoking." The launch comes at a post-pandemic time of dwindling church attendance, especially among Black Protestants that surveys say is unmatched by any other major religious group."We ourselves experienced a pain point of not being able to find community outside of our church, not knowing what to do to have fun without feeling bad for doing stuff that's conflicting to our values," said Eric Diggs, The Cove's 24-year-old CEO."There wasn't a space to cultivate that. So, we created it ourselves out of that pain point — the loneliness, the anxiety, depression, COVID, and the long quarantine.<h2>Proving that Christians can be cool – not corny</h2>Before their first monthly party in November, they set an ambitious goal: get 1,000 followers on social media. "We ended up getting more than 10,000 followers before our first event, which was insane," said Eric's brother, Jordan Diggs, 22, who manages the club's social media presence."Christians get a rep for being corny. And we want to show that Christians can be normal, can be cool. And they can have fun."A second equally popular event was timed to ring in the New Year. Inside, Benji Shuler sold vintage clothes with religious messages that hung from racks. A white T-shirt with the iconic Pepsi logo read: "Jesus: The Choice of a New Generation," echoing the soda company's tagline from decades ago.In lieu of alcohol, vendors sold sports drinks, bottled water and soda. Organizers cheerfully set up early. They hung Christmas-style lights from ceilings, sang a cappella and rehearsed their best choreographed moves.<h2>Club becomes a destination for Christians near and far</h2>Before he impressed everyone with his dance moves, Garrett Bland, 20, listened on his phone to "Deliver Me," by gospel singer Donald Lawrence. "It's about letting the Lord into your life," he said, wearing a gold medallion around his neck inscribed with the Lord's Prayer and a beige hoodie that read: "God first."He admired what The Cove's founders are trying to do, saying, "they want to create a space for believers who want to come to the faith and have fun."Wearing a blue hoodie embroidered in white with "young sons of God," Eric Diggs asked organizers and volunteers to join him in prayer. "Dear God, thank you for this night," he said. "Amen!" the group said in unison before the huddled like a basketball team before a game — and yelled: "The Cove!"Nia Gant, 18, attended the club for the first time. She moved from Grand Rapids, Michigan, four months ago and said she had been praying to make like-minded friends. They gasped and cheered when 21-year-old Dillan Runions, a former competition dancer, performed a back flip on the dance floor.<h2>Dance party blends into an emotional worship service</h2>Eventually, it turned into a revival of sorts: Some wept or knelt with eyes shut in prayer. A lot of private institutes and tuitions cater to local and regional audiences with promising claims like job guarantees,” said Manisha Kapoor, CEO and secretary general of ASCI. ASCI also carefully scrutinises BYJU’s <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/advertising/brands/news/byjus-white-hat-jr-to-withdraw-its-social-ads-for-making-misleading-claims/articleshow/78916793.cms">White Hat Jr, </a>Unacademy and other edtech platforms. To tackle the number of rising complaints, ASCI is working on a report to crack down on misleading ads in the sector. “EdTech comprises 6% of the total education complaints that we looked at but the impact of edtech is much more because, unlike small fragmented players, edtech players have big budgets and they are present on big [advertising] mediums. We do see a concern with edtech and we are working on an edtech study to understand the themes and harmful claims that are being made,” said Kapoor. The edtech industry is the <a href="https://www.afaqs.com/news/media/fmcg-gaming-edtech-fintech-remain-top-spenders-in-the-first-half-of-2022">third </a>biggest advertiser in India so, it has a wider reach to a large number of consumers in India. The ‘BIG’ IPL spenders During the recently concluded season 15 of the Indian Premier League, which is India’s biggest advertising carnival, education institutes and edtech platforms contributed to 6% of the advertising volumes on television, as per media research firm TAM, making it one of the leading spenders. EdTech players like Think &amp; Learn and EPX Uptech were the biggest spenders on television channels during the last season of IPL. After education, healthcare and personal care were among the top three industries which failed to comply with the advertising rules and regulations, the most.
