New Delhi, Traders' body CAIT on Tuesday said it is expecting an expenditure of Rs 4.74 lakh crore in the upcoming <keyword id="6393318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wedding-season" source="Orion">wedding season</keyword> from November 23 to December 15, which is likely to see almost 38 lakh marriages. The expenditures related to <keyword id="6358814" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wedding" source="Orion">wedding</keyword> purchases and procurement of various services by consumers this season are almost Rs 1 lakh crore more than the year-ago period, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said. The estimates are based on inputs from trade bodies in 30 cities in different states and stakeholders in goods and services. "During this period (November 23-December 15), it is estimated that around 38 lakh weddings will be solemnised with a total expenditure of around Rs 4.7 lakh crore," CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal told PTI on the sidelines of a press conference. "Last year, there were almost 32 lakh weddings with a total expenditure of Rs 3.75 lakh crore. So, this year there is (expected to be) an increase (in expenditure) of almost Rs 1 lakh crore which is a good sign for the Indian economy and retail trade," he said. The wedding dates during the season are November 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, and December 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 15, CAIT said. Khandelwal said in Delhi alone over 4 lakh weddings are expected this season, which could generate a business of about Rs 1.25 lakh crore.

It is alleged that stale food in consequent weddings leading to major health problems.</li></ul>Amid the high wedding season in India’s capital, Delhi government is working on formulating a policy to curb food wastage at extravagant weddings along with limiting the number of guests at such functions after the Supreme Court’s directive, PTI <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/sc-contemplating-limiting-number-of-guests-manage-food-wastage-at-weddings/story-ZipvMC8cyaHkPvsF1oQhHN.html">reported</a>. A bench directed by Justice Madan B Lokur was formed. Vijay Kumar Dev, Delhi Chief Secretary, reportedly told the bench that the issue has been discussed after it was flagged in a court order rolled out on 6 December. According to one Delhi government official, Dev also said that there was ‘artificially enhanced demand’ to have such outrageous wedding functions in Delhi, said the report. To address the issue, the government has suggested that wedding organisers should work with with NGOs that provide food to the needy, under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The bench said that the first step should be to formulate a policy followed by its implementation. The council for Delhi government said that it took eight weeks to roll out the policy and register caterers under the Food Safety and Standards Act. A policy is expected by the end of January. India’s Supreme Court wants the Delhi government to crack down on big, fat Indian weddings to curb food wastage — and a policy could be in place by next month

People going to offices from Delhi to Noida faced bumper-to-bumper traffic as final preparations for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sri+sri+ravi+shankar">Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s</a> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=art+of+living">Art of Living</a> event, at banks of River Yamuna, led to traffic jam. 
 The matter is going to get worse in the evening when the <keyword id="3626730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Culture-festival">World Culture Festival</keyword> will kickstart and so will the 20, 000 weddings in the city. 
 
The police have issued advisory and asked people to avoid major roads, including the Ring Road stretch in south Delhi, the highway, the Noida Link Road, areas near the Akshardham temple and Mayur Vihar in east Delhi. 
 
People have also been advised to take public transport and avoid going out between 12 noon and 11 pm. 
 
Meanwhile, nearly 1,700 personnel will be regulating traffic for World Culture Festival.

Parineeti Chopra, Raghav Chadha get married in Udaipur

New Delhi, Jan 30 () Gold prices on Thursday jumped Rs 400 to Rs 41,524 per 10 gram in the national capital helped by wedding season demand and overall recovery in global prices, according to HDFC Securities.
 Silver prices also climbed Rs 737 to Rs 47,392 per kg from Rs 46,655 per kg on Wednesday.
 In the previous trade, gold had closed at Rs 41,124 per 10 gram.
 "Spot gold of 24 karat in Delhi was trading higher by Rs 400 supported by wedding season demand and overall recovery in global gold prices. The busy wedding session in coming months may support spot gold prices to trade up," HDFC Securities Senior Analyst (Commodities) Tapan Patel said.
 Meanwhile, the rupee opened on a weak note and declined by 19 paise to 71.47 against the dollar in opening trade on Thursday.
 In the global market, both gold and silver were trading with gains at USD 1,582 per ounce and USD 17.72 per ounce, respectively. SUM HRS

Ten lakh weddings will cost Rs 10 lakhs each, 5 lakhs marriages will cost Rs 25 lakhs each, 50,000 marriages will have Rs 50 lakhs expenditure each and another 50 thousand marriages will be such in which Rs 1 crore or more will be spent! Overall in this one month, around Rs 3.75 lakh crore will flow through the wedding purchases in the markets, the survey revealed. The next phase of the wedding season will start from January 14, 2023 and will be continued till July. CAIT said that in Delhi alone, more than 3.5 lakh weddings are expected to take <keyword id="15310099" type="TOPIC" weightage="60" keywordseo="Place" source="TOPIC" sourcekeytype="marketing,investopedia" meta.keywordsubtype="null" meta.seopath="p/place" meta.entityname="Place" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="place">place</keyword> in this upcoming season, which is likely to generate a business of about Rs 75,000 crore. CAIT said that in view of the good business prospects of the wedding season, traders across the country have made elaborate preparations as they want to continue the sentiments emanated from just concluded record business figures of Diwali this year. Traders are keeping all arrangements up to date with them to meet the possible rush of customers. They said that about 20 per cent of the expenditure of each marriage goes to the broom-bride's side while 80 per cent of the expenditure goes to other third agencies working in solemnising the marriage. CAIT informed that before the wedding season, a large amount of business has already occurred in the repair of houses. "There is no bar on the budget."Planners' cost estimates of the Ambani wedding varied widely, from tens of millions of dollars to hundreds of millions of dollars.Anant's older sister <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ambani-richest-family-in-asia-india-lifestyle-home-wedding-photos-2018-12">Isha Ambani</a> got married in 2018 in a similarly lavish wedding, including a Beyoncé performance. While media outlets speculated about a $100 million price tag, a spokesperson for the Ambani-owned company, Reliance, said that it cost less than $15 million, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/naazneenkarmali/2018/12/11/the-big-fat-ambani-wedding-celebrates-a-match-among-indias-billionaire-elite/#7cb474465992">per a Forbes article</a> at the time.A spokesperson for the family did not respond to a request for comment about the costs for Anant Ambani's wedding.The pre-wedding events have grabbed <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ambanis-throwing-another-pre-wedding-party-cruise-ship-2024-5">headlines</a> for months. With so many celebrities and business leaders angling for an invitation, the nuptials are also a business networking event, Aggarwal said.<h2 id="7190f45a-3ee9-4e5a-bf2a-0fef8f5de89f">Each main family member is assigned a 'shadow'</h2>Many couples don't want to host their weddings at venues where other high-profile families have already held nuptials, Aggarwal said."They want everything to be exclusive," she said. "The decor has to be something else that no one else has ever thought of. It is almost like a big movie set."For a big celebrity wedding, planners divide their staff into teams and hire hundreds of additional people leading up to and on the day of the ceremony.With chefs, waiters, light and audio teams, and decorators, about 500 people often work the event, Modgil said.The planners also assign butlers to each main family member. These staffers, called "shadows," hold their phones and gifts and ensure they stay hydrated and have everything they need."There are over 70 suppliers and vendors who we work with for each wedding," said Darshan Shroff, a Mumbai-based wedding planner. "I like to describe wedding planners in India as circus masters."<h2 id="07e84198-c3b3-4ae5-b860-565eaa82e3bd">Privacy and security are top concerns</h2>Many celebrity or influencer couples are particular about how their wedding is portrayed on the news and on social media.Planners have strict instructions that restrict posts from vendors about outfits, decor, or flowers before a set date. Most big weddings also collect the phones of their guests for privacy, and couples have teams that work with the media."You can't have too many people hanging out taking their pictures. It makes them very uncomfortable," Modgil said about celebrity guests and couples.Top security firms and even local authorities may sketch out safety plans."The minute there are some kind of celebrities, whether it's politicians or Bollywood, security becomes very important," Modgil said. "We've had separate people escorting them and even taking them back because sometimes they even get mobbed."The families and their guests are not always easy to please.Aggarwal said she has planned weddings where celebrity attendees call to confirm what type of hotel suite they will be staying in and what kind of car is coming to pick them up. Once the trial is successfully completed and the deficiencies are met, the proper booking system would be up and running for actual use. 
 
"We have started the trial run of online booking system for community centres and open space/parks. With the launch of this project, Delhiites can book PWD's parks and community centres for marriage functions and other events online and even make payment through Internet. This project may be launched on 1 December," said a senior official from PWD. 
 
Presently, these venues can be booked only by visiting the Delhi Secretariat office, and thus consumes a lot of time and efforts of citizens. The motive of launching the online booking system is to save time of the technologically sound citizens. Also, in the wake of a recent corruption scam whereby three tent operators were blacklisted by PWD on account of fraudulent bookings, this project will also help in bringing full-transparency in the venue booking process. 
 
Central and State government employees would have to book the venue 90 days before the function while those who are not employed with Central or State governments would have to book the venue 30 days prior to the function date. 
 
At present, PWD has over 12 community centres and open areas/parks located in Gulabi Bagh, Karkadooma, Kalyanvas and Timarpur.
