In both cases, the fan — which users can control via the app — has five different speed settings. Sony has a wearable air conditioner that’s smaller than a smartphone

New Delhi, Feb 19 () IT services firm Tech Mahindra on Wednesday announced on Wednesday the launch of T-Block Accelerator, an accelerator programme for Telangana Blockchain District. The programme has been launched in partnership with the Telangana government and innovation management firm IBC Media. The launch of T-Block is a step in continuation of the Telangana government's endeavour to make Telangana as the 'Blockchain Capital of the World', a statement said. A pact had been signed between the Government of Telangana and Tech Mahindra to this effect in 2018, it added. "This initiative is aimed at start-ups that have a strong blockchain use-case, thereby accelerating the start-up growth and therein contributing to the growth of the overall industry," the statement said. Blockchains can broadly be defined as a new type of network infrastructure (a way to organise how information and value moves around on the internet) that create "trust" in networks by introducing distributed verifiability, auditability, and consensus. Blockchain is seen as a technology with the potential to transform almost all industries and economies. Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary (information technology, electronics and communications department) in the Government of Telangana, said the accelerator will be a "torch-bearer" to multiple future blockchain accelerators in the country. "Through this initiative, Tech Mahindra will enable creation of an ecosystem which will empower start-ups to solve tough business problems for clients across diverse industry verticals. The Telangana government will help provide the required regulatory framework to enable and promote Blockchain growth," the statement said. Rajesh Dhuddu, global practice leader (blockchain) at Tech Mahindra, said the company aims to build a world-class support infrastructure for blockchain start-ups and make Hyderabad a destination of choice among several new-age entrepreneurs and blockchain evangelists. <keyword id="6355629" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword> on Wednesday expanded its programme for startups to support startups working on the solutions to solve real-life challenges towards the new normal post COVID-19 landscape in India. <keyword id="9416148" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-for-startups">Google for Startups</keyword> has opened applications for the new batch of <keyword id="9416150" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-for-startups-accelerator">Google for Startups Accelerator</keyword>, with a special focus on health-tech, fin-tech, edu-tech, agri-tech, retail and SaaS startups, the company said in a statement. The next batch will commence in August 2020 and the last date of applications is June 30. This will be the fourth class of startups mentored by Google, which has so far closely mentored over 60 startups in India to date. "We have been working very closely with over 250 Startups founders over the last two months, holding consults with our network of experts, mentors and VCs to help solve for the immediate challenges faced by the founder community," informed Paul Ravindranath G, Programme Manager, Google for <keyword id="9416146" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups-accelerator-india">Startups Accelerator India</keyword>. Google launches program to support Indian startups creating solutions for post COVID-19 world

It is widely acknowledged that the micro, small and medium enterprises (<keyword id="6358354" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MSME" source="Orion">MSME</keyword>) sector has become the central nerve of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>’s economy in these past few decades. The glaring asymmetry between the MSMEs that require credit and those that receive it has also not gone unnoticed. NBFCs have become a pivotal part of the mechanism in closing this gap, by widening the reach of financial services thereby enhancing MSMEs’ resilience. NBFCs are slowly but surely gaining a foothold in the Indian financial system. They are the <a href="https://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/Bulletin/PDFs/01AR101017F2969F6115EB4B5992BD73976F9A905D.PDF">biggest</a> receivers of funds on a net basis, even surpassing banks. The double-digit growth in credit that NBFCs accomplished while banks were facing a decline in credit as a result of asset quality stress, should be an indicator of their central role as credit providers in India’s financial system. Within the MSME lending segment, NBFCs have <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1243029/india-market-share-of-lenders-for-msme/">witnessed</a> a stable 13% market share (as of 2020). NBFCs are increasingly preferred by borrowers owing to their increased ability to reach remote areas and in making quicker decisions, providing prompt services and having expertise in niche segments. As a result of lacking proper accounting systems, updated financials, and proper documentation, a large number of MSMEs borrowers are excluded from the traditional lending ecosystem. From the perspective of larger lenders, thin-file customers often require a greater degree of support and hand-holding. This combination of smaller ticket size geographical dispersion of such MSMEs makes it economically not viable to serve these markets. For India to step confidently into the future, servicing the credit needs of India's 60 million MSMEs without any access to formal credit is paramount. Digitally-led NBFCs remain key in this mission as in their case. They are expanding access to credit through credit models like the cash flow based model. This makes such NBFCs the go-to lenders for borrowers who have the means but are disqualified as per the traditional credit assessment process. There is an evolution of partnership models between NBFCs leveraging their distribution strength and superior customer underwriting with larger banks that have cheaper capital and better risk management processes. Such access to credit is further augmented by digital lenders that have built efficient and scalable outreach to credit-starved MSMEs. The data driven credit models such digital lenders use allow better risk calibration. Thus, proprietors in small towns can seamlessly access credit that was previously available to them in only physical bank branches that are flush with liquidity but inaccessible to MSME borrowers. This access has further been enhanced through solutions like E-NACH, CKYC/OKYC, E-Sign, Video Sign. The alternate data sets digital lenders use for credit modelling sidestep the need for collateral and documentation that many MSMEs may not have. This is how an ‘ecosystem-based’ approach to lending takes accessibility one step further. There is still much distance to be covered in terms of completely closing the MSME <keyword id="7804914" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Credit-gap" source="Orion">credit gap</keyword>. The onus falls on start-ups and the innovation ecosystem to create digital tools and strategies that leverage MSMEs digital footprints and ecosystems. OPINION: Why NBFCs remain key to closing the MSME credit gap

Bay Area, Beijing and Bengaluru have been emerging as the biggest startup hubs across the world, and the Koreans aren’t taking this lightly. The country is looking to attract international startups (Including India’s) through its <keyword id="3385304" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="K-Startup-Grand-Challenge">K-Startup Grand Challenge</keyword>. The challenge will allow Indian <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tech+startups&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">tech startups</a> to enter the Korean market and further expand to global customers. 
 
The project will accept applications submitted by June 14, and over 500 applications have already come in. An evaluation committee comprising of tech gurus, marketing experts and business leaders will then evaluate applications based and the business model, team spirit, market opportunity and other critical factors. 
 The top 20 startups will be in the six-month acceleration programme, and will receive $33,000 support each. Meanwhile, the final four day will receive up to $100,000 additional funding. During the nine-month span of the project, startups will have the opportunity to be invested-in by the accelerators and the <keyword id="620372" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="venture-capital-firms">venture capital firms</keyword> based in South Korea. 
 “Korea can be regarded as a test-bed for the Asian market. If a company has a center in Korea, it’s easier for them to expand to other Asian companies”, Kyung Hwan Lee, Executive Director of National <keyword id="6374576" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="IT-Industry">IT Industry</keyword> Promotion Agency (NIPA) at Korea-India SW Cooperation Center said. 
 
India’s start-up ecosystem has put the nation on the global map recently, and with serious foreign money coming in from credible VCs and even the Indian government, no wonder the Koreans are taking notice. 
 
When asked about Korea’s edge over other US-based <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=accelerator+program&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">accelerator program</a>, Lee says, “Korea has the best <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=network+infrastructure&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">network infrastructure</a> in the world. Seoul/New Delhi, <keyword id="135365" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-Electronics">Samsung Electronics</keyword> has unveiled an updated <keyword id="10159" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="programme">programme</keyword> to recycle old mobile devices at home with Internet of Things (IoT) <keyword id="6355118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="technology">technology</keyword> as part of the South Korean tech titan's vision for a sustainable future. <keyword id="10591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> unveiled "<keyword id="55852" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Galaxy">Galaxy</keyword> Upcycling at Home" programme at the <keyword id="362383" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Consumer-Electronics-Show">Consumer Electronics Show</keyword> (CES) 2021 late on Monday. "The new programme reimagines the lifecycle of an older Galaxy phone and offers consumers options on how they might be able to repurpose their device to create a variety of convenient IoT tools," the company said. The latest programme is an update to its Galaxy Upcycling campaign that was recognised by the <keyword id="93133" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-Environmental-Protection-Agency">US Environmental Protection Agency</keyword> as a solution for used mobile devices. Under the new programme, Samsung said its old Galaxy smartphones can be reborn as smart monitoring devices that can detect baby's crying or check companion animal's moves and leverage IoT technologies to operate other functions at people's smart home. In addition to the Galaxy device recycling scheme, Samsung announced that its eco-packaging would be used for QLED, UHD TV, monitor and audio products in 2021, reports Yonhap news agency. The world's largest TV vendor said all of its 2021 QLED TVs will come with solar-powered remote controls to reduce battery waste. Samsung also vowed to bolster technology education with programs including Samsung Solve for Tomorrow and Samsung Innovation Campus. To enhance accessibility of its products and technology, the company highlighted its SeeColors application, which is designed to support people with colour vision deficiency to adjust settings on Samsung smart TVs, as well as the Sign Language Zoom feature on TVs. "With a focus on the environment, people and society, we will continue to provide our consumers with responsible tools and technologies to address our challenges today and enable a better future for all," said Sandeep Rana, an environmental sustainability specialist at Samsung.
