<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Vodafone-India-CEOs-comments-over-Ravi-Shankar-Prasad-raises-concern/articleshow/48650729.cms">Vodafone India</a> has announced that it will start rolling out its <keyword id="6493730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="4G-services">4G services</keyword> from December starting with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kochi, battling it out with market leader <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Bharti-Airtel-allegedly-caught-spying-on-its-3G-users/articleshow/47611646.cms">Bharti Airtel</a> and Mukesh Ambani’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Reliance-Jio-To-Hire-500-Professionals-Plans-To-Launch-Services-By-September/articleshow/33730023.cms">Reliance Jio Infocomm</a>. 
 According to a statement by the local unit of UK’s Vodafone group on Friday, <keyword id="6354923" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vodafone-India">Vodafone India</keyword> is testing its upcoming 4G services and partnering with global technology infrastructure service providers for the network rollout. 
 
Moreover, it is also ensuring the presence of a robust architecture with a strong backhaul to support high volumes and deliver high network speeds since as the key differentiator is the 4G battle is slated to focus on customer experience. 
 
The statement also added “Vodafone India will also roll out its own 3G networks in 7 circles- Assam, North East, UP West, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala and Odisha, to expand its overall 3G footprint to 16 circles across the country." 
 While <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> can boast of the first mover’s advantage having already launched its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Airtel-4G-trials-inDelhi-NCR/articleshow/47722363.cms">4G services</a> across 300 cities and town, Jio has reportedly started beta trials for its data and voice services using ‘long term evolution’ (LTE)- a technology standard for offering high-speed 4G services. <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> on the other hand, expects to launch its services only next year. 
 
Vodafone India, in the Februaru 2014 spectrum sale had acquired 4G LTE airwaves in five circles, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kerala and Karnataka, which collectively earn approximately 50% of the company’s total data revenues. 
 
Vodafone UK has however already launched 4G services in 18 countries. It has over 20 million 4G customers across the group.

In what would become India’s largest telecom merger, <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> India and Idea Cellular is pushing for individual tower sale at the earliest. The two telecom majors, according to Economic Times news report, have mandated Morgan Stanley and <keyword id="189016" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bank-of-America-Merrill-Lynch">Bank of America-Merrill Lynch</keyword> to finalize buyers for their towers. Vodafone India has 11,000 odd towers in India, while Idea has 9,900 captive towers. The merger will likely be completed by 2018. Once done, Vodafone-Idea would become the biggest telecom company in India, while the current market leader <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> will be pushed back. The ET report also says that Vodafone has asked Morgan Stanley to figure out potential buyers for its 42% stake in <keyword id="6375231" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indus-Towers">Indus Towers</keyword>. This tower company is a three-way joint venture between Vodafone, Bharti Infratel and Idea. Earlier Vodafone UK had kept Indus Towers outside the proposed <keyword id="4322447" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="vodafone-india-idea">Vodafone India-Idea</keyword> merger.

That is when Vodafone was planning to go ahead with a public offer. One of the pre-IPO investors was Ajay Piramal who via Piramal Enterprises purchased 11% stake in 2011-12. He paid ₹5,864 crore but when it became obvious that the IPO plans were not going through, he also sold them in 2014. And, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/naazneenkarmali/2013/12/06/indian-billionaire-ajay-piramal-to-get-500-million-windfall-from-vodafone-stake-sale/#645833232d13">he received ₹8,900 crore</a>, a whopping 52% return or $1.4 billion, as per the exit agreement. Singh however exited Vodafone India in 2014 by selling his entire stake to its parent company Vodafone for ₹1, 241 crore.  When Ruias of Essar sold 67% of controlling stake to Vodafone in 2007, they never exited completely. They had held 33% minority stake in the company. During the start of this decade, Vodafone was planning an IPO and buying out all the minority shareholders. After multiple rounds of <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/technology/essar-exits-vodafone-for-5-bn-111040100124_1.html">negotiating and dilly dallying</a>, Essar agreed to sell their stake at $5 billion which was a part of the deal. The Indian <keyword id="6354776" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telecom">telecom</keyword> sector is booming, atleast as far as the mobile operator <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> is concerned. Today in its half yearly report, Vodafone posted a 13.5% jump from last year. They managed to rake Rs 184,809 million in the last 6 months. Marten Pieters, Managing Director and CEO, <keyword id="6354923" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vodafone-India">Vodafone India</keyword> said, “We continue to show a healthy growth driven by price hardening, an exponential growth in data and a solid subscribers base”. 
 Vodafone has not just experienced strong growth in revenues, but they also revealed that people are consuming more mobile data. Thanks to the smartphone revolution in <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, the company managed to collect data (browsing) <keyword id="45663" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Revenue">revenue</keyword> at Rs 15,419 million, which is up by 76.5%. This just shows that many people in the country are also using their mobile phones to connect to the internet. Which in turn means the demand for smartphones will grow further. Marten Pieters also showed a slide which suggested 7 out of 8 people in India use their mobile phones to browse the internet. 
 
In India, 155.5 million users make up for the current customer base for Vodafone. They have a strong rural presence with more than 50% of the current subscribers coming from there. In numbers, they have a customer base of 83.2 million in rural India. Now all eyes are on other telecom providers in the country to see if they made it to greener pastures.

Vodafone India Revenues Are Up By 13.5%

Banks picked out to manage <keyword id="6354923" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vodafone-India">Vodafone India</keyword>'s planned initial public offering (IPO) are will be making their presentations in the UK starting today, following which the lead bank may be selected by tomorrow or Wednesday. 
 
The banks that would be presenting their proposals include both domestic and global entities like Goldman Sachs, Citibank, Morgan Stanley, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. 
 
Prior to this, these banks have already made preliminary presentations to Rothschild, the advisor to the issue, which will be deciding the final four names, as directed by the authorities. 
 
"The beauty parade in London will begin from Monday," a person aware of the proceedings told ET. 
 The listing is being done so that <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> India's debt, which is expected to increase after this years’ spectrum auction, can be managed. 
As per Vodafone, its India business should be valued at par with larger rival Bharti Airtel, since it commands a premium over Bharti in the Indian market. 
 
Even though the public offer was earlier set for June 2017, it may be postponed because of the joint venture between Vodafone Group and Liberty Group in the Netherlands, for which Vodafone will be making a cash payment of 1 billion to Liberty Global.

Vodafone India IPO: Short-listed banks to present their plans in London today

Telecom service provider Vodafone today said it has partnered with Amazon Prime Video India to enable its customers access large selection of Bollywood, Hollywood, regional movies, US TV shows, kids' programming and global Amazon originals, according to PTI. 
 
"The entertainment consumption patterns of customers are rapidly changing. They want more freedom and flexibility in the way they consume content. 
 
"This partnership with Amazon Prime Video does just that, further strengthening our content proposition and reiterating our commitment to offering the best to our customers along with unique privileges," Vodafone India Director - Commercial Sandeep Kataria said in a statement. 
 
Vodafone is the first telecom player to partner with Amazon Prime Video India and its consumers can enjoy Amazon Prime with a special offer on Vodafone SuperNet 4G network starting March 22, the release said. 
 
After subscribing to Amazon Prime via MyVodafone app or Vodafone Website for an annual introductory subscription price of Rs 499, Vodafone customers will get Rs 250 cashback as their Amazon Pay Balance, it said, adding, that the offer is currently available only for telecom operator's customers using Android devices. 
 
Commenting on the tie-up, Amazon Prime Video India Director and Country Head Nitesh Kripalani said, "We are delighted to partner with Vodafone India to bring this unique offer first to Vodafone customers. 
 
"At Amazon Prime Video, our focus is on offering latest and exclusive movies and TV shows to customers on a reliable service, with great playback quality and low data usage. 
 
"This offer further extends our promise of delivering convenient, on-demand access to our large content selection to our customers."

<keyword id="6354923" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vodafone-India">Vodafone India</keyword> has inked a pact with <keyword id="6372175" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="WalMart-India">Walmart India</keyword> that would allow members of Walmart-owned Best Price stores to pay using <keyword id="811012" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="M-PESA">M-Pesa</keyword> mobile wallet services. 
 
Vodafone M-Pesa would help enable safe, secure and convenient transactions, making it easier for Walmart members in Lucknow, Amravati, Aurangabad, Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Guntur to make faster payments. 
 
Under this agreement when a Best Price store member based in any of these cities places an order, an M-Pesa agent enable cash-in into his M-Pesa account. This will allow the member to make payments from his cellphone for goods ordered from Walmart's Best Price Cash &amp; Carry store. 
 
Vodafone India's business head, M-Pesa Suresh Sethi said the company is "confident this association would go a long way in simplifying the payments process for Walmart India from the members, especially resellers based in secondary markets." 
 
Rajneesh Kumar, VP and Head (Corporate Affairs) at Walmart India said the partnership "would benefit our members, especially kiranas/resellers, due to the convenience of payment along with efficient delivery of quality products at their doorstep."
