New Delhi, Apr 17 () Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have extended the validity of pre-paid mobile plans till May 3 for those users who could not recharge their account due to the lockdown imposed to contain Covid-19 spread. The extension in validity altogether benefits around 12 crore customers. It will enable customers to continue getting incoming calls even if they are unable to recharge their account till May 3. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea had earlier extended validity till April 17 of pre-paid account holders."Many of these customers have been able to recharge through several channels activated by Airtel including - ATMs, post offices, grocery stores and chemist shops, in addition to digital channels. However, close to 30 million (3 crore) such customers have still not been able to recharge their pre-paid mobile accounts," Bharti Airtel said in a statement.The government announced nationwide lockdown starting March 24 till April 14. It has been further extended till May 3. Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea offer cashback or commission to their customers who recharge pre-paid account of subscriber on their network through apps of the respective companies. Vodafone Idea said free of cost extension of incoming service validity will enable millions of feature phone users of both Vodafone and Idea to continue to receive incoming calls, even if the validity of their plan expires earlier. "In order to ensure that consumers stay connected during this extended lock down, we are extending the incoming service validity of 90 million consumers till May 3," Vodafone Idea marketing director Avneesh Khosla said. New Delhi, Feb 6 () Telecom operator Vodafone Idea will drop brand name "Idea" from its postpaid services, according to an announcement made by the company on Thursday. The company's prepaid customers will, however, continue to get services under both Vodafone and Idea brands. "Vodafone RED postpaid plans will be available to customers from all stores and digital channels of both Vodafone and Idea brands. "While all new postpaid customers will be on-boarded directly to Vodafone RED plans as per their usage and preference, all existing customers of Idea Nirvana, the postpaid offering under the Idea brand, will be migrated to similar Vodafone RED plans," the company said in a statement. Vodafone India and Idea Cellular merged their mobile businesses in August 2018 to create Vodafone Idea Ltd. Both the brands are synchronising their entire business. The move to migrate postpaid customers to Vodafone Red is a part of the company's synergy plan."Beginning with Mumbai, this initiative will be rolled out in a phased manner to cover all circles over the next few months," the statement said.The change is applicable to enterprise Idea postpaid customers as well. "Prepaid products will continue to be offered under both Vodafone and Idea brands nationally across all circles via respective retail and digital channels enabling customers to enjoy a rich portfolio of services and benefits under their preferred brand," the statement said. New Delhi, Mar 31 () Vodafone Idea on Tuesday announced extension of validity on prepaid plans availed by low income customers using feature phones till April 17, and Rs 10 talktime credit to help such users stay connected during the lockdown to contain coronavirus pandemic.Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday had announced an extension in the validity period of more than 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited talk time of Rs 10 in these accounts.State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL too have announced they will extend validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offered Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown."The unprecedented situation arising from the outbreak of COVID-19 has created several hardships, especially for low income, prepaid customers using feature phones. To ensure that such customers remain connected amidst these troubled times, Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL)...today announced extension in validity of its prepaid plans, availed by low income customers using feature phones, till 17th April 2020," VIL said in a statement.The free extension in plan validity duration will enable millions of feature phone users of both Vodafone and Idea to continue to receive incoming calls, even if the validity of their plan expires earlier, the statement said.It has also anounced a talktime credit of Rs 10 in the account of nearly 100 million feature phone users to help them stay connected with their family and friends by making calls or sending text messages."This talk time is being credited in the accounts of all eligible customers, as fast as possible, over the coming days," the statement added.Commenting on the latest move, Avneesh Khosla, Marketing Director, Vodafone Idea said, "Our customers must remain connected without worrying about any disruption, especially in these troubled times. Extending plan validity and crediting talk time will particularly benefit migrant workers and daily wage earners, whose lives and livelihoods have been most unsettled due to the precautionary lockdown".The company's network teams are already operating round-the-clock to ensure seamless connectivity, Khosla added.With this special initiative for low-income feature phone users, Vodafone Idea customers can now continue to remain fully connected and access relevant, latest updates from local authorities, the company said.Customers availing Vodafone Idea's services via smartphones can continue to recharge their accounts using online and digital platforms, it said.Sector regulator Trai on Sunday had asked telecom operators to extend prepaid validity period to ensure that subscribers get uninterrupted services during the 21-day nationwide lockdown.Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has also sought details of the steps taken to ensure availability of uninterrupted telecom services to such customers on a "priority basis".Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 had announced a complete lockdown of the entire country for 21 days in an unprecedented move to try halt the spread of coronavirus, shortly after which the Centre said road, rail and air services will remain suspended during this period.As on Tuesday morning, the pandemic had claimed 32 lives in the country and number of COVID-19 cases has crossed 1250 in India. As Jio’s free offers of data and voice call end this month, Idea and <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> respectively are coming up with new plans that would focus on data and free voice calls for prepaid customers. 
 
Idea may be offering unlimited voice and 500MB data per day, for 28 days for Rs 348. Vodafone may be launching a new plan at Rs 342, where prepaid users would get 28GB data per month along with FUP of 1GB per day. Another plan at Rs 346 is aimed at offering unlimited calling benefits with 10GB data every month. 
 
Vodafone has already started promoting these plans through messages to customers across the country. While a level playing was the standard in Indian telecom industry, there seems to be a major disruption, all credits to <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> backed Jio, which has already acquired 100 million subscribers in short period of time.

New Delhi, Dec 1 () In a first mobile tariff hike in past four years, telecom operator Vodafone Idea on Sunday announced new plans under which call and data charges will be dearer for its pre-paid customers by up to 42 per cent from December 3.
 Besides this, Vodafone Idea will also charge 6 paise per minute for every outgoing call made by customers on to the network of other operators.
 "Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), India's leading telecom service provider, today announced new tariffs/plans for its prepaid products and services. New plans will be available across India starting 00:00 hours of 3 December 2019," the company said in a statement.
 The company has announced new plans in "unlimited"category with 2 days, 28 days, 84 days, 365 days validity which on the back of the envelope calculations show are costlier by up to 41.2 per cent.
 Vodafone Idea has only revised rates of plan promising unlimited mobile and data services and also introduced some new plans.
 A company official explained all the existing plans in unlimited category will be replaced by the new plans from December 3 and new plans will be introduced or revised based on market response.
 Though the company classifies a set of plans in 'unlimited' category, these actually come with usage limit for data at a promised speed and 100 SMS per day limit.
 The highest rate of increase of 41.2 per cent has been announced by the company in annual unlimited category plan which will cost Rs 2,399 instead of 1,699 at present.
 The starting plan with data offering of 1.5 Gb per day with 84 days validity in "unlimited" category will cost around 31 per cent more at Rs 599 compared to Rs 458 at present.
 The company will raise the price of Rs 199 unlimited plan, which offers 1.5 Gb data per day, by about 25 per cent to Rs 249.
 Vodafone Idea which is reeling under massive debt of around Rs 1.17 lakh crore had earlier cited acute financial stress on the company behind the decision to raise mobile call and data charges.
 Vodafone Idea last month reported a consolidated loss of Rs 50,921 crore -- the highest ever loss posted by any Indian corporate -- for the September quarter on account of liability arising out of the Supreme Court's order in the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) case.
 The company has estimated liability of Rs 44,150 crore post the apex court order, and made provisioning of Rs 25,680 crore in the second quarter this fiscal. PRS RR MR

Voda Idea to raise mobile call, data charges from Dec 3 by up to 42%

New Delhi, Apr 14 () Sector regulator Trai on Tuesday asked all telcos, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, to provide data on recharge patterns of prepaid users during the lockdown, and other related information.Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has sought response on the issue in 24 hours, sources told .The communication from the regulator has gone to all operators, including state owned telecom companies, sources said, adding that once the response is received, the regulator will finalise its views on the manner in which prepaid benefits should be extended, given that the lockdown has been extended to May 3.The sources said details sought from telcos include the number of subscribers who have benefited from validity extension and talktime credit -- announced recently. Data has also been sought on number of subscribers who were unable to recharge during the lockdown.Vodafone Idea had earlier announced extension of validity on prepaid plans availed by low-income customers using feature phones till April 17, and Rs 10 talktime credit, while Bharti Airtel too had offered extension in the validity period of over 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited Rs 10 talk time in these accounts.Reliance Jio had offered its JioPhone users 100 minutes of free talktime and 100 free SMS till April 17, and their incoming calls would continue even post validity of their pre-paid vouchers.The telecom industry had, however, rejected Trai's call for extending benefits of talktime credit and extended validity to all pre-paid mobile phone users. Industry body COAI had argued that telecom firms had offered over Rs 600 crore of benefits to low-income users to stay connected during nationwide lockdown, and extending it all prepaid users was unjustified. The prepaid data price hike by Indian telecom players hit <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/enterprise/news/facebook-reported-decline-in-daily-active-users-for-first-time/articleshow/89314035.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Facebook's overall growth</a> in the country in the fourth quarter of 2021, the company has revealed. In November, leading telecom players Bharti Airtel, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/30-day-monthly-recharge-plans-for-prepaid-users-now-as-per-trai/articleshow/89173110.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Reliance Jio</a> and Vodafone Idea increased prepaid tariff rates by up to 25 per cent. Meta CFO Dave Wehner said in a company quarterly earnings call that <keyword id="6354576" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="facebook" source="Orion">Facebook</keyword> user growth was impacted by a few headwinds in the fourth quarter. "In Asia-Pacific and Rest of World, we believe Covid resurgences during prior periods pulled forward user growth. User growth in India was also limited by an increase in data package pricing," he informed late on Wednesday. "In addition to these factors, we believe competitive services are negatively impacting growth, particularly with younger audiences," Wehner added. Following Vodafone Idea (VIL) and Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited announced a hike in prepaid tariff rates by as much as 20 per cent, effective from December 1. Airtel announced that prepaid tariff rates will be increased by up to 25 per cent with effect from November 26 Vodafone Idea also increased rates by up to 25 per cent, effective from November 25. According to them, the move "will start the process of ARPU (average revenue per user) improvement and help address the financial stress faced by the industry". Wehner further said that it was a little bit unique in the quarter in areas like India, where "we saw data plan pricing increase lead to slower growth there". "So that's another kind of unique element of the quarter on that front," he noted. According to Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Pathak, the prepaid data price hike impacted the social media platforms and Facebook was hit among those. "There are millions of prepaid users in India and new users are fast joining the internet revolution with affordable entry-level smartphones. After the prepaid price hike, their social media usage declined which affected Facebook's growth in a price-sensitive market like ours," Pathak told IANS. According to third-party data from Statista, there are over 350 million Facebook users in India alone, making it the leading country in terms of Facebook audience size. Meta-owned WhatsApp has more than 400 million users in the country. For the first time ever, Facebook has lost daily users globally, reporting lower-than-expected ad growth that sent its stock plunging nearly 20 per cent. The massive stock drop instantly wiped out roughly $200 billion in its market value. The Meta-owned Facebook platform registered 1.929 billion daily users in the fourth quarter of 2021 -- from 1.93 billion in the previous quarter. The company confirmed that it is the first sequential decline in its history.
