<ul><li>With an aim to make digital learning accessible to millions of children from underserved communities, EdTech giant <keyword id="2900267" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="byju" source="Orion">BYJU</keyword>’S launched its social initiative ‘Education For All’ last year.</li><li>So far, BYJU’s has reached 3.4 million students and has now revised its vision to empower 10 million students by 2025.</li><li>To celebrate its social outreach program's one-year anniversary, BYJU’s has launched a digital film to remind us of the catastrophic education emergency that the pandemic has created in our country.</li><li>We speak to <keyword id="309498" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vineet-singh" source="Orion">Vineet Singh</keyword>, VP- Brand and Creative Strategy, BYJU’S and Mansi Kasliwal, VP - Social Initiatives, BYJU'S to find out more about the initiative, the brand’s new CSR campaign and discuss how school closures have impacted the country.</li></ul>“If you get 2 candies from Mummy and 2 from Papa, how many candies would you have?” a little girl, as she walks through the sand dunes with her brother, asks him. He replies, “Too many.” BYJU’s latest film aims to throw a spotlight on how the pandemic has created a catastrophic education emergency in our country, putting our children’s future on an indefinite hiatus. <div type="Youtube" id="gsqnvTUmkt0" title="BYJU'S Education For All" thumbUrl="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/gsqnvTUmkt0/mqdefault.jpg"></div> The film shows how children in remote areas travel miles to go to school. With the ongoing pandemic, many of them have been deprived of their right to education as schools have shut down or have moved online. Across India, 1.5 million school closings have affected 247 million children in elementary and secondary schools, according to a UNICEF study. As the pandemic drags on, more and more students have dropped out of school and the most marginalized communities are paying the biggest price. Many young kids have been forced into child labour or child marriage and are cut off from the early development stages of childhood. With an aim to bridge this gap, BYJU’s launched its CSR initiative called ‘Education for All’ last year. So far, the EdTech giant has reached 3.4 million students and has now revised its vision to empower 10 million children, up from 5 million, by 2025. Under the initiative, BYJU’s has partnered with over 110 NGO partners and launched its program in 26 states, whereby its educational content is loaded onto the devices with free access for the students and the teachers. “Even pre-pandemic, there were about 13 million children out of school and 67% of these kids out of school are girls in the grade category of six to eight. Experts predict that the pandemic is likely to double this number. Now, in terms of the quality of education, the SSO report says that there are about 110 million children in India who do not receive good quality education, even though they're part of some base-level education or primary education level system. Education is a fundamental right of every child in India, as per the Constitution, but it's about the quality of education. It's also about the availability of teachers. So if you just look at the education sector in general, I think the problems are just plenty and the scale of them is something that I don't think a single organization like ours can actually address which is why we've taken the ecosystem approach. It is a mix of NGOs, the government, other corporates, everybody is going to contribute,” Mansi Kasliwal, VP - Social Initiatives, BYJU'S told Advertising and Media Insider citing various studies. As per UNICEF, only 24% of households in India had access to the internet pre-COVID and there is a large rural-urban and gender divide. With its EFA initiative, BYJU’s has been providing at-home school through a personal digital device. However, every child has different needs. Kasliwal told us how BYJU’s devices are supporting them in catching up on the learning they have missed. She said, “The needs are different in terms of the grade, their state board and language; these are the three basic things that we need to know about before giving out a course. This information comes to us from the NGO, and we are able to customize the program for each child. So each child gets a course that is aligned to their learning needs. Also, we understand that great competency is a real challenge on-ground. So a fifth-grader in one of these areas may actually not know addition and subtraction. Whereas for a regular child of fifth grade, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and everything has to be known. So before we begin a program, we find out where the learning gaps are built through bridge learning programs and then give them content. So there are multiple efforts that are being taken through aptitude tests, bridge learning programs, gap identification, assessment tests and then there’s teacher training.” BYJU’s film, which has been released to raise more awareness around the digital divide and its CSR initiative, was conceptualised and created by BYJU’S internal brand team. Panning and tilting across the scenic views of Uri in Kashmir to the panoramic white deserts of Kutch to the hinterlands of Sundarbans, the film is shot across Sonmarg, Jaisalmer, Alupuzzah etc for over 120 hours along with 1000+ beneficiary students. Talking about the film, Vineet Singh, VP- Brand and Creative Strategy, BYJU’S said, “An impactful story needs an impactful, even more, or a little bigger impactful way of communicating the story out and that's what we tried to do with this. The objective is simple - get the story out to more and more people. The objective is not to piggyback on this to build a brand narrative The objective is to just reach out to more and more people. And the more and more people see this film, the more people join in. That's our end objective. We’ve started with a digital-first narrative. The music is available on all leading music platforms as well including Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, and we have some specific digital strategy pushing towards the music as well. So you will see a lot of content around that and we partnered with a few influencers.” The film’s music follows along with the unique rhythm of the mathematical ‘table of 2,’ and is rendered artfully by actor-singer Raghubir Yadav. The music, composed by Sneha Khanwalkar, aims to capture the innocence and hope of young children for a better tomorrow.

<ul><li>While the co-working spaces had to stop operations during the initial phase of the lockdown, things are now slowly getting back to normal.</li><li>In fact, the lockdown could have given a boost to the industry as more and more organizations are now looking at cost-efficiency, flexibility and people are increasingly looking for spaces near their houses.</li><li>Most players from the industry are confident that the co-working space will see resurgence soon, and that it has a good growth opportunity in the future.</li></ul>Before the world was hit by the pandemic that led to offices shutting down and people working from home, co-working spaces had started becoming the place for small businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups to set up shop. Often bustling with people from varied background, all working at the same place, co-working spaces had a lot of pros. Apart from the cost-efficiencies and the increased flexibility for people working at their own pace and time, these spaces were also great places to network and build connections. However, with the lockdown, the functioning of these spaces was brought to a halt, atleast in the initial months, when people were stuck at homes. The workplace evolved from being purely functional to being more productive, experiential, and meaningful. Large occupiers started adopting conservative leasing strategies and put up decisions regarding fresh take- up of spaces on hold for the next few months. The pandemic led businesses to re-evaluate their commercial real estate strategy to make it more resilient and agile to adapt to these changes. Occupiers began to take into account the need for flexible workspace and helped occupiers to reduce capital costs, place greater emphasis on employee wellbeing &amp; sustainability, and fast track the adoption of flex working practices. According to recent industry reports, the Indian flex space market witnessed a supply boom which resulted in a significant rise in the total stock of flex spaces, which nearly tripled from 9.9 million sq ft. in 2017 to 29.5 million sq. ft. in 2020 over a period of close to 3 years. Since most of our clients are large enterprises with long-term leases, we did not see substantial impact on our revenues. Also, as majority of our business falls under the profit-sharing (managed aggregation) model, the strength of our relationship with our landlords has played a significant role in helping us steer through this time. We also took this challenge head on to understand the changing needs of our customers, innovate and come up with new solutions to cater to the evolving work landscape.” Meanwhile, the pandemic also led to a lot of the players to re-invent and innovate, to address consumer problems. Two months into the pandemic, Awfis launched its work-from-home product - Awfis@Home. It provided employees the flexibility to work efficiently from their homes while replicating the setting of a productive office work environment, including the Physical infrastructure, IT infrastructure and Tech integration. “We have received a great response for the product, for instance, 1000 units of Awfis@Home have been sold till now via direct sales as companies are providing allowances to employees for a comfortable work from home experience. While the work-from-home model would have worked well in the lockdown, many companies may not want it as a culture and many business verticals and functions still require employees to work in an office setting. Work-from-home may co-exist, but office space will not lose its importance. Many companies, even pre-pandemic, have had to deal with the burden of long-term, lock-in leases with heavy security deposits, which take away the ‘business cashflow’ ability to respond to changes in the economy quickly. A recent report by JLL stated that the current market penetration of flexible workspaces in total office space stands at 3% and this percentage is expected to go up to 4.2% by 2023. The report further stated that irrespective of some short-term disruptions and challenges, increased demand from large enterprises will help the industry grow to more than 50 million square feet by 2023. The flexible spaces segment is expected to grow by an average of around 15-20% per annum over the next three-to-four years, even though the trajectory might not be linear. Meanwhile, <keyword id="10635247" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajiv-bathla">Rajiv Bathla</keyword>, Chief Operating Officer, <keyword id="10635246" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-circle-work">The Circle.Work</keyword> said that while there has been an incremental increase every month since things started opening, it’s still sometime away from normalcy. “With every subsequent un-lock, operation of public transport and the metro, incremental business volumes are certainly coming in. The occupancy levels still at best are 35% with larger enterprises still waiting it out. I feel apart from the financial aspect, there’s still fear around what’s safe and what’s not. WeWork is ready with all health and safety measures as members return, keeping government and industry body guidelines in place. The certification recognizes our efforts in taking stringent risk management and control measures to keep the environment safe and secure for all members and stakeholders, Singh shared. Shining the spotlight on what Awfis is doing to ensure safety, Ramani said “An operational checklist is in place to ensure the physical safety and wellbeing of our occupants along with maintaining the highest standards of hygiene. We are constantly and transparently communicating with our clients to address any concerns and also helping with formulating a return to workplace strategy to gradually transition back to the physical workspace after months of work from home.” Awfis will also be soon launching new features like the UV sanitization of meeting rooms and thermal scanning before entering the meeting rooms. Meanwhile, 315Work Avenue is also not leaving any stone unturned to make sure people feel comfortable in their spaces. “We have put in the best practices in place by consulting a vast panel of experts on our board which also includes several doctors. Based on their inputs, we have come up with two very differentiating products to provide hospital/ healthcare facility standard sanitization at our workspaces. First is making use of an ‘Ioniser,’ a patented technology that provides hospital standard air filtration and kills all the germs in the air. Second is making use of coatings and paints which always keeps the surfaces sanitized.We have also redesigned our seating arrangement at workstations and in areas like the cafeteria, lift, breakout lounges, etc. to maintain proper distancing,” Mehrotra shared. “Adopting to the highest standards of safety as prescribed by Ministry of Health and other government bodies, ensuring very visible sanitization and daily disinfection of premises, institutionalizing our own differentiated standards of contactless technology like temperature screens as members walk through the turnstiles, QR code-driven vending machines including tea and coffee machines are some of the initiatives we’ve taken to heighten safety, explained Bathla. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What the future holds" text="What the future holds">What the future holds</cmsannotation> So what will the future look like for the flexi, co-working space? And how are these players future-proofing their business to ensure their businesses are not impacted adversely even if another year like 2020 comes about? “Our endeavor here was to future proof our team’s mindset. Keeping relationships vs economics at the forefront, we retained more than 80% of our member base. The rebound is going to be superfast when you have customer and clients on your side,” shared Bathla. Meanwhile, Mehrotra feels that co-working space providers now need to rethink their strategy, packages, interior and design areas, and make the segment more attractive for consumers. “Co-working spaces will see a surge as they offer flexible infrastructure solutions and also set precedents for safe and healthy practices too. As companies look to resume business, redesigning and restructuring of existing real estate will pose yet another challenge, however co-working spaces will be able to respond to design changes required post-COVID-19 quicker and more efficiently than traditional office spaces,” he said. Earlier this year WeWork India received $100 million in a fresh round of funding and the organization already has a plan in place focusing on long-term sustainable growth across all its spaces. “We want to pivot our energies towards attaining profitability for sustainable long-term growth. While the first three months of 2020 were profitable for WeWork India, as we moved towards the pandemic phase, there were some changes we made at a strategic level that focus on existing locations, while we continue to enhance member-experience through flexible solutions. We continue to offer flexible solutions to businesses of all sizes this year and focus on attaining profitability by early 2021,” added Singh.

 Singh, who is presently co-founder of Buildczar.com, scripted growth of <keyword id="1336736" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="99acres">99Acres</keyword>.com and Naukri.com from startups to scaled companies. 
 
"On board as a personal investor, Vineet will also serve as a senior advisor to the company working closely with the management team. We believe that his association will further fuel the ambitious growth plans of Housing.com," said Housing.com CEO Jason Kothari. 
 In January, <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword> had made a fresh investment of Rs 100 crore in Housing.com to help the realty portal consolidate its position in the heavily contested online property segment. 
 
Housing.com, which competes with the likes of Rupert Murdoch-backed PropTiger, Magicbricks and Commonfloor, had received USD 90 million funding in December 2014.

 Having written that Smith's intelligent play would have done Javed Miandad proud, I asked myself which Indian batsman would have acted with the sensibility that Smith showed off the final ball of a Super Over in a high-intensity game. One name sprang to mind: <keyword id="4166" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ajay-Jadeja">Ajay Jadeja</keyword>. 
 
Nearly everyone else would have risked a guts-and-glory shot under the circumstances. In the mind's eye, one can see some of those who would have tried the big shot coming out with guns blazing and their reputations enhanced; but one can also see most coming up second best to the pressure of the occasion and the bowler. 
 
So what is it about Jadeja that makes me believe that he would have done exactly what Smith did in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday night? His deep knowledge of the laws of cricket, his ability to harness his own performance to secure the best results and a willingness to reach the goals with the minimum fuss make him the prime candidate. 
 
There are two instances of his craft that stand out - and these come a year on either side of his assault on Waqar Younis' bowling in the 1996 World Cup quarterfinal at Bangalore. In a North Zone Ranji Trophy limited-overs game against Services in 1995, he manipulated (rather than farmed) strike when with tailender Sonu Sharma. 
 
Haryana were in a poor way and it was imperative that Jadeja retain as much of the strike as possible. Services set the field in such a way that they would concede him a single to try and have a go at Sonu Sharma. But Jadeja, acknowledged as one of the sharpest brains in Indian cricket, was up to speed with that ploy. 
 
He came up a counter plan that not only helped his team but also forced BCCI to change the playing conditions. Jadeja and Sonu Sharma would cross but the man running to the danger end would turn from halfway down the pitch. They would get one run - with an umpire signalling one short - but Jadeja retained strike. 
 
Then, in a Ranji Trophy game against Services in Faridabad in 1997, Jadeja shared a last-wicket partnership of 72 with Vineet Jain. It must have taken some skill since Jadeja finished with 242 not out while Jain's contribution to the stand was a grand total of zero runs! 
 
Memories of these matches were strong enough reason to merit a call to the man himself. Jadeja came up with the names of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Mohammad Kaif and Rahul Dravid as Indian batsmen who would have shown a similar acute awareness of the immediate task on hand and the possibilities opened up by the field placing to do just enough to get to the goal as Steve Smith did. 
 "MS has done it in an <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> game," Jadeja said, setting me off on a search for an instance of Dhoni finishing a game with a simple single or a tantalizing two. It is easier to recall instances of Dhoni finishing games with a flourish, the ICC <keyword id="3859" type="SPORT" weightage="40" keywordseo="Cricket-World-Cup">Cricket World Cup</keyword> 2011 final against <keyword id="6355572" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sri-Lanka">Sri Lanka</keyword> being on top of that list. 
 
Last year, Dhoni took on Sunrisers Hyderabad's Ashish Reddy and came up with a finishing sequence of dot, six, four and four to win a home game for Chennai Super Kings with two deliveries to spare. Jadeja was right, though. A year earlier, Dhoni flicked Rajasthan Royals' Stuart Binny to fine leg and picked up two runs off the last ball at the MA Chidambram Stadium in Chennai to complete a seven-wicket win. 
 
It is a wonderful game, cricket. It lets us dip into the past and come up with some amazing memories. Every action on the cricket field triggers visual images from another time.
