New Delhi, Mar 30 () State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL will extend validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offer Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown."This will enable poor people make calls for help even if they don't have any balance left," Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a tweet.The minister also took stock of performance of essential services under the Department of Telecom (DoT) and Department of Post, with heads of circles from all states through a video-conference on Monday."During the video conference, took feedback on functioning of their essential services during #21daysLockdown from heads of circles of BSNL and India Post. Exhorted them to rise to the occasion and set new benchmarks in public service as #IndiaFightsCorona," the minister tweeted.In a statement, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) said it will offer free validity extension for prepaid mobile subscribers who were unable to recharge after their validity expired during the lockdown period, and also provide free talktime worth Rs 10 to those with zero balance during this phase.BSNL said these facilities have been provided to facilitate communication by its mobile subscribers in emergency."In view of hardships faced by the mobile subscribers whose validity has expired during the lockdown period from 22nd March 2020 and are not able to recharge for extension of validity, BSNL, as a support to its esteemed mobile subscribers is extending the validity of all such subscribers up to 20th April 2020, free of cost, so that the subscribers continue to receive incoming calls," BSNL said in a statement.In addition to this, BSNL is also giving free talk time of Rs 10 to all such subscribers who reach zero balance during the lockdown period, the statement added.BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Praveen Kumar Purwar said, "BSNL firmly stands with its subscribers during this crisis period and we request the subscribers to 'Go Digital' for recharging their accounts. New Delhi, Apr 18 () Pre-paid customers of BSNL, who could not recharge their accounts during the lockdown, will continue to get incoming calls till May 5, the company said on Saturday.     "In view of hardships faced by the subscribers whose validity has expired during the lockdown period and are having almost zero balance, BSNL as a humane gesture, is extending the validity of all such subscribers up to May 5, 2020, free of cost, so that the subscribers continue to receive incoming calls," the state-run telecom firm said in a statement.    BSNL has also launched recharge helpline on a toll-free number for subscribers to get their recharge done.     The facility is currently available in North and West zones and will be available from April 22, 2020, in south and east zones."BSNL firmly stands beside its subscribers during this crisis period and we request the subscribers to 'Go Digital' for recharging their accounts," BSNL CMD PK Purwar said Shri. Eligible employees are rushing in to apply for the scheme as rumours that the company capped this offer for 80,000 employees only — is doing the rounds. While the telecom player has around 176,000 employees, as many as 106,000 fall under the eligibility age. The telco was hoping that 80% of the employees would opt for VRS. “The number of persons in the organisation are far higher than the competitors. We are looking forward to reduce 70,000 to 80,000 employees, and make it attractive for the employees, so that they can see value in the VRS," Pravin Kumar Purwar, Chairman of BSNL <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/bsnl-which-is-yet-to-pay-august-salaries-wants-to-give-an-attractive-retirement-package-to-80000-employees/articleshow/70988909.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">said </a> a few months back. The VRS scheme will be available till December 3, 2019 till 5:30 pm. The government will infuse a total of ₹29,900 crore for VRS settlements and retirement liabilities of BSNL and MTNL. MTNL too announced the same scheme on November 3. After implementing the bailout scheme for BSNL and MTNL, the union government plans to trim the retirement age of the employees to 58 years. The current age for retirement is 60 years. Over 15,000 BSNL employees rush to opt for VRS package on day one

New Delhi, Mar 30 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday announced an extension in the validity period of more than 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited talk time of Rs 10 in these accounts."Airtel has extended the pre-paid pack validity for over 80 million customers till April 17, 2020. All these customers will continue to get incoming calls on their Airtel mobile numbers even after the validity of their plan is exhausted," Airtel said in a statement.     The benefits will be available to users in the next 48 hours, it said.    "Airtel will also credit an additional Rs 10 of talk time in the pre-paid accounts of all these 80 million customers to enable them to make calls or send SMS and therefore stay connected with their loved ones," the statement said.    State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL have also extended validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offer Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown.    An Airtel official said that the company will not recover Rs 10 credit given to all the pre-paid customers.     "In this difficult hour of fighting off the threat of covid-19, Airtel is committed to ensuring that all people remain connected without any disruptions. And for this objective, it is critical to take care of the under-privileged daily wage earners of our country, whose lives have been disrupted due to the lock-down," Shashwat Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Bharti Airtel said. New Delhi, Mar 31 () Vodafone Idea on Tuesday announced extension of validity on prepaid plans availed by low income customers using feature phones till April 17, and Rs 10 talktime credit to help such users stay connected during the lockdown to contain coronavirus pandemic.Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday had announced an extension in the validity period of more than 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited talk time of Rs 10 in these accounts.State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL too have announced they will extend validity period of their prepaid mobile services till April 20 and offered Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance, to enable users, especially poor and underprivileged, to stay connected during the 21-day nationwide lockdown."The unprecedented situation arising from the outbreak of COVID-19 has created several hardships, especially for low income, prepaid customers using feature phones. Vodafone Idea offers prepaid validity extension for low-income feature phone subscribers

Thanks to the Indian government’s new move, Indian citizens might soon be able to validate the credentials of drivers and domestic helps using their <keyword id="6356006" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aadhaar-card">Aadhaar card</keyword> numbers, before they hire them. 
 
The government is planning to widen the scope of the Aadhaar authentication system. As of now, it has been restricted to banks and a few government departments, but soon, it would be open to individuals and private companies. In doing so, all privacy concerns would be addressed by using a more secure method. 
 
In exchange of a small fee, anyone would be able to use the unique identity number and verify the details of others. This would be allowed to done online in real time, unlike many other identity documents such as voter, ration and PAN cards. This would also allow companies to authenticate the records of their consumers and staff. 
 Unique Identification Authority of India (<keyword id="6355252" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UIDAI">UIDAI</keyword>) is looking forward to appointing third-party agencies to carry out the authentication on behalf of individuals and companies. 
 
"Various use-cases can be built using the Aadhaar authentication service, especially by startups who have been requesting for access," an official told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
The move has come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commanding to expand the use of Aadhaar. 
 As far as privacy is concerned , the new authentication system will function differently from eKYC norms, the current norms used by government departments and banks. This allows user agencies to enter the <keyword id="485058" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aadhaar-number">Aadhaar number</keyword> and biometrics of a person after which the UIDAI server provides the name, address and other details, to be stored by the agencies. 
 
When the service will be extended to private companies and citizens, only the bar code on the Aadhaar letter will have to be scanned and the data it contains will be sent to the Aadhaar database for verification, to return either with a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. 
 
"This will be most secure way of authentication since there will be no transfer of any citizen data through the UID database," the official said. 
As per UIDAI data, there are about 330 authentication user agencies and over 111 crore transactions have been handled since the service started. About 20 companies have so far signed up for the Aadhaar authentication service, which include telecom service providers like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and state-owned BSNL, as well as financial services firms such as MasterCard and Visa.
