Indian Pharma company <keyword id="15908017" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="marion-biotech" source="Orion">Marion Biotech</keyword> Pvt Ltd has halted the production of cough syrup following allegations by Uzbekistan that at least 18 children died in the country after consuming the medicine. A joint inspection of the manufacturer's Noida facility was carried out by the teams of the Uttar Pradesh Drug Control Department and CDSCO. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) is in contact with the national drug regulator of Uzbekistan regarding the matter. "Immediately on receipt of the information, joint inspection of the NOIDA facility of the manufacturer, Marion Biotech, was carried out by UP Drug Control and CDSCO team and further action as appropriate would be initiated based on the inspection report," said the Union health ministry on Thursday. The samples of the cough syrup have been taken from the manufacturing premises and sent to Regional Drugs Testing Laboratory (RDTL), Chandigarh for testing. Meanwhile, Marion Biotech Pharma company has said that it has sent samples of the said cough syrup for testing and has also halted the production of the product. Hasan, the Legal Head of Marion Biotech, expressed grief over the deaths on behalf of the company and said that an inquiry into the matter was being conducted by the government. He added that samples were collected and action would be taken on the basis of the report. Marion Biotech is a licensed manufacturer and holds a license for manufacturing Dok1 <keyword id="26842" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="max" source="Orion">Max</keyword> syrup and <keyword id="50839" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tablet" source="Orion">Tablet</keyword> for export purposes granted by <keyword id="282629" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="drugs-controller" source="Orion">Drugs Controller</keyword>, Uttar Pradesh. Uzbekistan's health ministry, on Tuesday, said that 18 children suffering from an acute respiratory disease died after taking excessive doses of cough syrup Dok 1 Max, manufactured by Marion Biotech. Indian drugmaker Marion Biotech halts manufacture of cough syrup, probe underway

All the manufacturing activities at the Indian Pharma company, Marion Biotech Pvt Ltd, have been stopped following allegations by Uzbekistan that at least 18 children died in the country after consuming the medicine. The manufacturing activities have been stopped after the inspection by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (<keyword id="6375144" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cdsco" source="Orion">CDSCO</keyword>). Uzbekistan cough syrup issue: Manufacturing at Marion Biotech stopped after probe

While Delhi and many other states including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have seen a sudden spurt in <keyword id="64895" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dengue-cases" source="Orion">dengue cases</keyword> in the last couple of days, government data showed that the number of <keyword id="6360092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dengue" source="Orion">dengue</keyword> cases has recorded a significant rise in the last few years. Moreover, states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan witnessed the maximum number of cases of dengue during 2021 among all the states. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan recorded 29750, 23389 and 20749 dengue cases respectively during 2021. Delhi also recorded a significantly higher number of cases at 13089 during the same year. A total of 1.93 lakh cases were reported from all across the country in 2021. Government data revealed that 2020 had witnessed a remarkably lower number of 44,585 cases probably due to the Covid related restrictions in most parts of India as against 1.57 lakh cases in 2019. This year, a considerable number of dengue cases have been reported from Delhi and many cities of Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, UP has so far registered over 2,200 dengue cases, with the state capital Lucknow reporting over 300 cases. Similarly, Delhi has also recorded nearly 1000 cases. Officials said that October can be the most vulnerable period for the spread of dengue in Delhi and recent spells of rain have only added to the woes. Recently, the Delhi government asked hospitals to reserve 10-15 per cent beds for patients of vector-borne diseases. Government data showed that 346 deaths were reported across the country due to dengue in 2021 as against 56 deaths in 2020 and 166 deaths in 2019. The central government intervenes whenever there is a sudden rise in dengue cases. Reports said that a six-member team has been sent to Uttar Pradesh very recently by the <keyword id="83655" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Health-Ministry" source="Orion">Union Health Ministry</keyword> to collaborate with the state authorities in taking public health measures for dengue management in the districts of Firozabad, Agra and Etawah. The National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC) is the nodal agency under the umbrella of the National Health Mission for Vector Borne Diseases (including dengue) prevention and control in the country. The NCVBDC has issued multiple advisories to the States/UTs for detection and control of outbreaks, preparedness and capacity building to take effective measures for vector control, involvement of the non-health sector, ensuring availability of drugs, diagnostics, insecticides, equipment and to fill up the vacant positions of entomologists. Moreover, training has been imparted to doctors on case management and to entomologists on integrated vector control at the central and state level. As per a parliament reply on August 2, 2022, free diagnostic facilities through 769 Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals and 17 Apex Referral Laboratories have been made functional. 1.92 lakh IgM tests have been provided by the Centre. It said that the NCVBDC provides technical guidelines for prevention, control, and management of dengue cases in States/UTs. It has come up with a proposal to develop Allahabad as an “access-controlled township that will have 4G network and full <keyword id="47655" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wi-Fi">Wi-Fi</keyword> connectivity with homogeneity of design for all building structures,” an official release said. 
 The Samajwadi Party government led by Chief Minister <keyword id="6355031" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Akhilesh-Yadav">Akhilesh Yadav</keyword> has been promoting its development agenda to win back support after its dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections. 
 
A presentation on the plan of the new city was made to senior officials from the infrastructure and industrial development department and Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation during a meeting last week. 
 
“Around 25% area of the township would be reserved for industries with dedicated power supply, prepaid electricity meters, provision for 100 per cent water harvesting, zero-discharge mechanism, and CNG supply network,” said Sanjiv Saran, principal secretary, industrial development. 
 
Amity University, Fortis Healthcare and Maruti Suzuki have already expressed interest to invest in the state and the government is considering to allot them land in Allahabad. 
 
“The education department has been asked to prepare a proposal to develop the university in 40 acres of land,” an official statement said.

UP Govt To Develop Allahabad Like Noida

India's drug regulator has given approval for a study to be conducted by the <keyword id="93589" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Christian-Medical-College">Christian Medical College</keyword> (CMC), Vellore on mixing of COVID-19 vaccines <keyword id="9485939" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="covaxin">Covaxin</keyword> and Covishield, official sources said on Wednesday. An expert panel of the <keyword id="170943" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Drugs-Standard-Control-Organisation">Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation</keyword> (CDSCO) on July 29 had recommended granting permission for conducting the study. The trial will involve 300 healthy volunteers. "The aim of the study is to assess the feasibility on whether a person can be given two different vaccine shots -- one each of Covishield and Covaxin -- to complete the inoculation course," a source said. Separately, a recent study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) involving 98 people, 18 of whom had inadvertently received Covishield as the first dose and Covaxin as the second in <keyword id="413944" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="uttar">Uttar</keyword> Pradesh, showed that combining these two COVID-19 vaccines elicited better immunogenicity than two doses of the same vaccine. The study also found that immunisation with combination of Covishield and Covaxin was safe and the adverse effects were also found to be similar when compared to the same dose regimen.
