A quick study of the Facebook Ads Library <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ads/library/report/?source=archive-landing-page&amp;country=IN">revealed</a> that Koo spent over ₹1.5 crore across 285 ads on Facebook and Instagram between February 15 and May 15. It was followed by <keyword id="1740093" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bjp-up" source="Orion">BJP UP</keyword>, which spent ₹1.4 crore across 1,301 ads in the same time frame. According to a previous report by Business Insider, BJP had spent over<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/news/bjp-up-has-spent-over-3-crore-on-facebook-ads-last-month-congress-spent-6-lakh/articleshow/89750791.cms"> ₹3 crore on Facebook ads</a> in UP between January 21 to February 19. This was nearly half of the total ₹7.5 crore — the highest among all states — spent on Facebook and Instagram ads in the Uttar Pradesh regions in the same time frame. The state of Uttar Pradesh and how it’s been feeding Facebook ad revenues

<keyword id="19894922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh" source="keywords">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> has strong and established women leaders but, ironically, the majority of this '<keyword id="19911646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nari-Shakti" source="keywords">Nari Shakti</keyword>' does not belong to this state. Barring a few, most of the women leaders have come from other states and after contesting several elections, they have consolidated their position in Uttar Pradesh. Senior Congress leader <keyword id="19935990" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi" source="keywords">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> leads the brigade of political talent imported from outside Uttar Pradesh. A native of Italy who was living in New Delhi with her in-laws, the Gandhi bahu made her political debut from Amethi in 1999 and then contested and won the Rae Bareli seat from 2004 to 2019. Sonia Gandhi began campaigning in Amethi from 1984 when her husband Rajiv Gandhi made his political debut. When Sonia Gandhi finally took a plunge in politics after the former Prime Minister's demise, she chose the family turf, Amethi. The former Congress President was at one time seen as a prime ministerial candidate, though she never claimed the position. Another woman politician who was seen as a prospective prime ministerial candidate is BSP supremo, <keyword id="19897516" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mayawati" source="keywords">Mayawati</keyword>. Mayawati was born in Delhi but her political 'karambhoomi' became Uttar Pradesh when the first SP-BSP government came into existence in 1993 in the state. Circumstances propelled Mayawati into the Uttar Pradesh chief minister's chair in 1995 and over the years, she has emerged as a politician who cannot be ignored. Actor-turned-politician, <keyword id="19968072" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hema-Malini" source="keywords">Hema Malini</keyword>, who is seeking her third term from Mathura, belongs to Tamil Nadu and has spent most of her life in Mumbai. She contested and won the 2014 and 2019 elections from Mathura. Hema Malini calls herself 'Krishna ki gopi' and claims to have a divine connect with Mathura. Among others in this list is Smriti Irani, who is seeking her second term from Amethi and originally belongs to Delhi. However, after winning Amethi in 2019, she calls herself 'Amethi ki bitiya'. She has even built her home in Gauriganj in Amethi and is well versed with local politics and the local people. Maneka Gandhi, who originally belongs to Delhi, is the senior-most MP among these women, having won her first election in 1989 on a Janata Dal ticket. She later joined the BJP and has always chosen Uttar Pradesh to contest elections - first Pilibhit and then Sultanpur. Jaya Prada, another actor-turned-politician, was born in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh but chose Uttar Pradesh to kickstart her political career even though she had earlier joined the TDP. Jaya Prada successfully contested the Rampur Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009 elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket. Later, she joined the BJP in 2019. Dimple Yadav, senior SP leader and wife of Akhilesh Yadav, originally belongs to Uttarakhand but made Uttar Pradesh her home after her marriage to Akhilesh. Dimple Yadav began her career by losing a bypoll to Raj Babbar of the Congress from Firozabad in 2009 but won the Kannauj seat in a 2012 bye-election. She won the Kannauj seat in 2014 but lost in 2019. However, Dimple Yadav won the Mainpuri bye-election after the demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2022. Among all these women leaders, it is only Union Minister Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (S) who was born and brought up in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, even in the past, several women leaders who made a mark in Indian politics were born outside Uttar Pradesh but chose to contest polls from the state. Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar, made her debut in politics when she won a bye-election from Bijnor in 1985. Meira Kumar, who is the daughter of late veteran politician Jagjivan Ram, was born in Bihar. Former Delhi Chief Minister, late Sheila Dikshit, won her first election from Kannauj in 1984. She was born in Kapurthala in Punjab. Freedom fighter Sucheta Kripalani, the first woman Chief Minister in India, who headed the Uttar Pradesh government, also belonged to Punjab but won the Assembly polls from Mehdawal in Sant Kabir Nagar. --IANS amita/rad

Four out of five elections in the bag ⁠— the first incumbent party in <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> to win the state in 37 years ⁠— is enough for a delirious party (celebration). The Bharatiya Janata Party (<keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword>) is not a new party, but it’s the only one that seems to have the strongest organisation among all political parties. But money and power may just be two of the ingredients that make it so effective. The result of the latest election in Uttar Pradesh (UP) has reinforced one fact about the state’s changing politics: identity politics, as we’ve come to know it, is passe. <div type="image" title="UP election results" msid="90135835" hostid="261"></div> The wave of anti-establishment leaders, who emerged in North India in the 1980s, saw India as a mishmash of several identities, based on religion, caste, language and so on, saw an opportunity in becoming individual power centres by representing one or more of these factions promising them clout along with affirmative action. Their fiefdoms seemed to have broken by the Narendra Modi wave in 2014 and haven't recovered since then. It’s not because those identities have suddenly dissolved into a larger national, or even a state level, group. Both caste-based oppression and religious discrimination is alive and well. The <keyword id="6354265" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samajwadi-party" source="Orion">Samajwadi Party</keyword> gained a lot by tapping into the fear of persecution among Muslims this time and won the best ever-vote share in the party’s history. <div type="image" title="SP won back the vote share in Muslim dominated constituencies" msid="90135994" hostid="261"></div> However, on a larger scale, the issue hasn’t won them the election. It just seems like people don’t expect politicians to resolve these issues. After decades of broken promises, people don’t seem to be looking for anti-dynasty messiahs who, eventually, initiate their own dynasty. People want to hear something new from the challengers. So, parties fell back on the tried and tested issues like unemployment and inflation. But that hasn’t worked in UP either. <div type="image" title="Assembly Elections 2022" msid="90135864" hostid="261"></div> It’s not like there were no chinks in the BJP armour. Even what the government could do on its own, it hasn’t. Over 10 million young people who applied for a Railways recruitment exam have not received the results in over 2 years. A teacher eligibility test to be held by the government became a controversy after it <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/till-when-varun-gandhi-raises-unemployment-issue-in-latest-criticism-aimed-at-centre-up-govt-101638421572885.html">got cancelled just before the elections</a>. But these things have happened in UP even when the BJP was not in power. The fact is even in the Modi or <keyword id="43254" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yogi-adityanath" source="Orion">Yogi Adityanath</keyword> era, UP has seen massive job losses, partly due to the pandemic. But they were able to offer some tangible solutions too: additional work for the unskilled, under the rural employment guarantee scheme (<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/71-mgnrega-wages-not-paid-on-time-14-delayed-beyond-30-days-study-shows-121102901592_1.html">as flawed as it may be</a>), and free food for the poor. The free ration, in the wake of the pandemic, provided by the government has been particularly popular in states like Uttar Pradesh that rank very poorly by level of poverty and contribute a large proportion of India’s migrant workers. <div type="twitter" handle="SVishnuReddy" handlename="Vishnu Vardhan Reddy" image="http://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1451805156316647433/FRMMeG5I_normal.jpg" favoritecount="3947" retweetcount="1334" status="So @ndtv deleted this video tweet as they didn't want to show the ground reality of Uttar Pradesh to the people of… https://t.co/7OLeqlT3OK" createdat="1645603213000" id="1496394449781665796"></div> Issues like the <a href="https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/67-journalists-arrested-detained-questioned-india-2020-their-work-140963">arrest of journalists</a>, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/lakhimpur-kheri-case-ashish-mishra-released-on-bail/articleshow/89594633.cms">killing of farmers in Lakhimpur</a>, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/hathras-gangrape-murder-case-top-developments/articleshow/78474943.cms">the rape in Hathras</a>, have not enraged the collective conscience in a way that the <keyword id="6360456" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OPPOSITION" source="Orion">opposition</keyword> would have wanted. Essentially, BJP leaders and supporters can say <a href="https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1474456355163488268?t=Y7LhxIvK7syYZNglPJEdcQ&amp;s=19">any abhorrent thing</a> against religious minorities ⁠— Modi and other icons can continue to condone or ignore it ⁠— as long as the policies themselves aren’t discriminatory. Simply put, for example, as long as no one is denied free ration because of their religion or caste, the people are able to ignore the rhetoric. Does that mean that the BJP will remain in power forever? No. But the alternative has to be a new face, a new outfit that captures the imagination of the Indian youth in a way that existing leaders don’t. The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) sweeping win in Punjab is proof of exactly that. AAP is a 7-year old political upstart that has become a credible political alternative in Delhi and Punjab, and broken ground in <keyword id="826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="goa" source="Orion">Goa</keyword>. What works for it is Kejriwal’s crafty cocktail of welfare politics, anti-establishment posturing with a healthy dose of religious flattery. <div type="image" title="Punjab Election Results" msid="90136060" hostid="261"></div> In fact, it may even seem like what the voter wants isn’t exactly a new idea, but s/he surely doesn’t want to hear it from the same old flock of career/dynastic politicians. Even now, BJP has serious challengers in many states but none of them have any traction beyond their home states. Mamata Banerjee’s attempt to seek votes for Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh hasn’t yielded much. Even the idea of a coalition of regional parties ⁠— from Arvind Kejriwal to MK Stalin, from Mamata Banerjee to Pinarayi Vijayan, from Jagan Reddy to Ashok Gehlot ⁠— taking on Modi seems jaded, if not flimsy. The way people vote for a state election is different from how they vote for the Parliament. This was the best chance for opposition to show some might and they’ve lost it. The opposition needs a new face to change the face of the government.

SIMPLY PUT: Uttar Pradesh is bored of the opposition

A majority of the Lok Sabha election 2019 predictions say the TMC candidates will win from Kolkata Uttar and also Kolkata Dakshin constituencies. At present Subatra Bakshi and Sudip Bandyopadhyay are the sitting MPs from Kolkata Dakshin and Kolkata Uttar constituencies respectively. Both of them contested in 2014 elections in AITC tickets. AITC finds these two constituencies a stronghold for its Lok Sabha seats. During 2014 elections, Subatra Bakshi of AITC won from Kolkata Dakshin constituency with a margin of 1,36,339 against the BJP candidate Tathagata Roy. His vote share was 36.95%. The election result 2014 for the Lok Sabha was favorable to Sudip Bandyopadhyay of AITC who secured 343,687 votes with a vote share of 35.95% while Rahul (Biswajit) Sinha of BJP was the runner with 247,461 votes which marked a 25.88% vote share. The key candidates from Kolkata Dakshin constituency are Mala Roy of TMC, Mita Chakraborty representing the Congress, Nandini Mukherjee nominated by the CPI (M) and Chandra Kumar Bose fighting for the BJP. The key candidates for Kolkata Uttar constituency are Rahul Sinha representing the BJP, Syed Shahid Imam contesting on behalf of the Congress, Sudip Bandyopadhyay representing the AITC and Kaninika Bose nominated by the CPI (M). As per the statistics available with the Chief Election Commissioner of West Bengal, the total number of electors in Kolkata Uttar Lok Sabha seat is 1,443,818 consisting of 794,275 males and 649,528 females besides 15 third gender voters. Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency has a total number of 1,505,638 voters made of 821,490 males and 684,148 females. The voter turnout during 2019 Lok Sabha elections is recorded at 67.09% for Kolkata Dakshin and 61.18% for Kolkata Uttar seats. The voter turnout during 2014 elections for these constituencies was 69.30% for Kolkata Dakshin and 66.65% for Kolkata Uttar constituencies.

The recruitment process will begin soon. As per the plan, 34,000 constables will be absorbed in civil police and 6,000 in other units, including PAC, radio and as computer operators. A senior police officer said that the recruitment process coincides with the Prime Minister's direction to officials of central departments and ministries to recruit 10 lakh people in the next 1.5 years. The increase in number of dengue cases, ahead of the monsoon season, has put <keyword id="6354750" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="health" source="Orion">health</keyword> officials in <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> on alert. The state's Director General, Health, Vedvrata Singh said that Uttar Pradesh has the required medical infrastructure to counter the outbreak of dengue but the key to prevention was in the hands of the people. "There are 70 labs in the state with the facility of dengue testing at the moment and another 88 labs are being developed. Rapid Response (RR) teams have been formed at the block level who will take immediate action. Earlier such teams existed at the district level. At the same time, fever health desks have been established in every hospital," he said. Director, Communicable Diseases, A.K. Singh said that there is neither any medicine nor any vaccine for dengue and therefore, efforts should be made to prevent the mosquito bite. "If the fever persists, the patient should get tested for dengue. Upon diagnosis, high fluid diet should be taken along with medicines," he said, adding that patients should be saved from dehydration. Additional Director, Malaria Control, R.C. Pandey said that dengue can be stopped by united efforts by government, civic agencies and people. During the pandemic, between April 2020 and November 2020, goods (including milk, flour, sugar, artificial flowers, rice, silk etc.) worth ₹72,508 crore were exported from Uttar Pradesh. Similarly, from April to November 2020, exports of flour, bakery and milk were doubled. Between April and November 2020, food grains worth ₹1054.20 crore were exported from Uttar Pradesh. According to export-oriented traders, black rice from Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh is in huge demand in foreign countries. Nepal, Bangladesh and other South Asian countries have received a large number of ODOP products from Uttar Pradesh. The state's exports have been steadily increasing since the formation of the Yogi Adityanath government. In 2017-18, goods worth ₹88,967.42 crore were exported from the state. Products worth ₹1,14,042.72 crore and ₹83,999.92 crore were exported in 2018-19 and 2019-20, respectively. Uttar Pradesh has now started working towards developing the 'Make in UP' brand. For this, preparations are underway to develop each district as an export hub.
