John Randal Tyson, an heir of founder John W. Tyson, was suspended from the company after being arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated in June. That marked <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tyson-foods-cfo-embarrassed-sorry-after-arrest-wrong-home-bed-2022-11">his second alcohol-related arrest since his CFO appointment in 2022</a>. On Thursday, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/child-labor-tyson-foods-perdue-farms-chicken-investigation-2023-9" target="_blank">the meat juggernaut</a> announced that its longtime staffer Curt Calaway, who was the interim CFO, would take over. Tyson will stay on as an employee but will be on <keyword id="23150653" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="health-related-leave" source="keywords">health-related leave</keyword>, the food company said in a release. Tyson was appointed to the role in 2022 at age 32, making <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tyson-foods-cfo-embarrassed-sorry-after-arrest-wrong-home-bed-2022-11">him the youngest CFO of any Fortune 500 company</a> at the time. The <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-owns-tyson-foods-history-2023-5">fourth-generation Tyson family member </a>became CFO three years after he joined the company. He previously worked in <keyword id="19939232" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment-banking" source="keywords">investment banking</keyword> at <keyword id="19967624" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="JPMorgan" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="JPMorgan" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="JPMorgan">JPMorgan</keyword> and graduated from Harvard and Stanford. Tyson Foods did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment sent outside regular business hours. The company, known for its Hillshire and Sara Lee brands, is worth $23 billion, and the Tysons are worth $3.1 billion, per Forbes. <h2>Two arrests in recent years</h2>During the first incident in 2022, Tyson was found intoxicated and asleep in a stranger's bed around 2am, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tyson-foods-cfo-embarrassed-sorry-after-arrest-wrong-home-bed-2022-11">Business Insider previously reported.</a> The home where Tyson was found belonged to a woman who said she thought Tyson came through her unlocked front door. He was released later that evening after being charged with public intoxication and criminal trespass. In June, Tyson was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving after he misjudged a turn and rode up onto a curb. The scion's run-ins with the law are not the company's only <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/child-labor-tyson-foods-perdue-farms-chicken-investigation-2023-9">controversy in recent months</a>. In September 2023, The New York Times Magazine <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/18/magazine/child-labor-dangerous-jobs.html">published an investigation</a> that showed children as young as 14 were knowingly employed as overnight cleaning staff at plants run by companies including Tyson Foods. Some were gravely injured on jobs that federal law prohibits children from doing. Tyson Foods did not respond to a request for comment from BI at the time. The Department of Labor subsequently investigated child labor at Tyson and Perdue Farms as part of a broader probe. No charges have been filed. In November, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tyson-recalls-frozen-chicken-nuggets-customers-find-metal-pieces-2023-11">Tyson Foods recalled</a> almost 30,000 pounds of its frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets after complaints that the nuggets contained small metal pieces, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls-alerts/tyson-foods-inc--recalls-chicken-patty-product-due-possible-foreign-matter">said</a>. Correction: August 30, 2024 — An earlier version of this story misspelled the name of Tyson Foods' new CFO. Phan left dentistry full-time after experiencing nerve pain and having her son, working part-time while Wagoner works full-time. They live modestly and save for their family's future, though they still go on vacations and to Seahawks games. "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/financial-independence-retire-early-fire-millennial-income-wealthy-business-owners-2024-4">Financial independence</a> is not having to work full-time and the freedom to be able to send my child to full-time preschool, 40 hours a week, and come home and be able to do the things that I want to do," Phan said. Many Americans are working to achieve financial independence — or having enough savings or income to live comfortably for life. Some are hoping that will allow them to retire early, thus making them part of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fire-movement-financial-independence-retire-early-millennial-goals-saving-wealth-2024-5">FIRE movement</a>, though some like Phan and Wagoner <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/early-retirement-overrated-financial-independence-fire-return-to-office-balance-2024-6">continue working</a> for extra financial security and personal satisfaction. "I want to be able to walk away from any job if it's not working," Wagoner said. "What I really care about is the financially independent part, so if I wanted to take a year off and go travel, or if I wanted to get out of a job that is really stressing me out and causing me mental difficulties." <h2>Working toward financial independence</h2>Phan was born an hour south of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-to-seattle-leaving-georgia-atlanta-cost-of-living-millennial-2024-1">Seattle</a> to parents who "weren't wealthy by any means," though they took her on vacations and allowed her to participate in various extracurricular activities. Her parents taught her to live frugally and only spend on what's important. She worked at Subway, drove a used car, and got a phone as a senior in high school after most people in her grade. She got financial aid for her bachelor's degree and then enrolled in dental school. She rejected half the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/save-plan-student-loan-forgiveness-blocked-lower-payments-appeal-granted-2024-7">student loan</a> package offered because she didn't need it and wanted to live debt-free as soon as possible after graduation. Across eight years of school, she borrowed $140,000 — $80,000 was from the government, which she paid off two years after graduating, and $60,000 was from her parents, whom she paid back three years after graduation. Wagoner grew up in a small Michigan town and worked at his father's grocery store starting at 14, allowing him to buy a car before his 16th birthday. His accountant mom taught him how to set up a bank account and spend frugally — though he admits there weren't many places in his town to do so. He was the first in his family to attend college, and he chose Michigan State University with various scholarships paying for half his tuition. He paid for his living expenses through internships at Microsoft and drove his car until it stopped working. He read <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/early-retirement-financial-independence-san-francisco-homebuying-fire-work-balance-2024-6">financial independence</a> books emphasizing spending on important things and cutting back on unimportant ones. He saved up enough to buy a condo, knowing his income was stable and growing, which he and Phan later paid off and rented to tenants. Phan and Wagoner met in 2015 while he was still at Microsoft — he had four more years of income, 401(k) matching, and no student debt. While dating, he told her he wanted to retire by 40. Phan was less convinced — she wanted to start a dental practice and knew it would take years to get it off the ground. "I thought he was crazy, and I said, I'm not going to eat rice and beans the rest of my life," Phan said. They decided to map out their family expenses and used Wealthfront, an automated investment service, which helped them build wealth through investments and high-yield savings. They both have kept their finances separate but share their numbers openly. <h2>Starting to strategize</h2>They didn't strategize much in their first few years of dating, instead just living below their means without sacrificing their quality of life. They paid for their wedding themselves in 2019 and then planned and paid for their honeymoon right before the pandemic. They also put 25% down on a home with an interest rate of 2.75%, which they chose not to pay off because of the low interest rate. "We got approved for a $1.5 million house, and I told my realtor, don't waste your breath showing us these houses; we're not going to spend it," Phan said. "We're choosing not to have a very large mortgage payment, so that positive cash flow has really propelled us above our colleagues." Over the last few years, they've <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fire-movement-how-to-hit-financial-independence-freedom-grant-sabatier-2024-4">kept expenses down</a> by driving a used car, investing in an e-bike instead of a second vehicle, and being intentional about food purchases. They've both maxed out their 401(k)s and IRAs and do everything they can to strategize their tax advantages. They also automated their savings and investments, which helped them keep expenses down and stay more organized. They had a son in 2020, and Phan transitioned from a full-time dentist to a stay-at-home mom doing part-time dental work. Nerve damage in her right hand prevented her from returning to work full-time. She said their finances were solid enough from not "keeping up with the Joneses" that she could work less while her husband continued to work full-time. Two years ago, Wagoner switched to a job paying a third less than his job at Qualtrics, though it's in the video game space, which he enjoys more. Phan made a spreadsheet to track her net worth, and she was surprised at the number: over $4 million in total assets, about two-thirds of which are liquid. It was enough for both to fully retire, though they chose not to so they could send their kids to college without worrying about the financial burden. <h2>Planning for the future</h2>They put almost $100,000 in their son's college fund, which they will continue to contribute to, though when he turns 16, they will encourage him to find work. They plan to enroll him in public school but are considering some private options. Phan said she's already toying with starting his financial education young by giving him a toy allowance. "I want him to understand the value of money, that he can't just get whatever he wants, but if he works hard and saves up, he can have his guilt-free spending," Phan said. "I just don't want him to have the pressure of paying for school like I did." They've discovered ways to parent without breaking the bank, such as using public resources like parks and getting cheap museum passes. Still, they prioritize spending on what they love, such as recent vacations to Mexico and Paris and season tickets to the Seahawks. They find cheap flights, such as $500 round-trip flights to Thailand, and other ways to reduce travel costs without sacrificing quality. They hope to take their son on a months-long trip to Europe or Asia to immerse him in different cultures. Phan recently hired an interior designer to redo the furniture in their primary home. Wagoner recently spent money on a new office setup, a gym membership, and eye surgery. Sometimes, it's hard for her to spend, as she has little desire for anything luxurious, though she said she's trying to feel less guilty about some higher-cost purchases. They have also loaned over $400,000 to friends as business loans. Recently, they've talked about combining their money and being more open about their finances, allowing them to make better plans for the future. "We are being more transparent and looking at all of the numbers and being able to talk about these things and say, looking at this account that will keep growing, I think we can do this," Wagoner said. They've considered what they would pivot to after full retirement — Phan would become a wedding planner, while her husband would consider being a football coach. "We've lived a very humble life and flown under the radar, which is how I think we've been able to all of a sudden catapult into this wealth just on hard work," Phan said. If the market is not giving them the valuation that they expect, they will not go ahead,” said Haldea. Only <keyword id="4093871" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="utkarsh-small-finance-bank" source="Orion">Utkarsh Small Finance Bank</keyword> has re-filed its IPO papers, even as many more companies that planned to go for an IPO in the last financial year let it lapse. Over 32 IPOs that received a go ahead in 2021-22 have been put on hold, while 31 more received an approval in 2022-23. Of these 31 from the current financial year, only Syrma and DreamWorks have gone ahead and opened their issues to the public. A lot of companies file DRHPs assuming issues will sail through but a number of factors like valuations and demand for fresh issuances among domestic and foreign investors play a key role. “There are 10-12 conditions that they have in mind during the filing and many of these conditions may change,” said Arun <keyword id="6358183" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="Orion">Kejriwal</keyword>, founder of Kejriwal Research &amp; Investment Services. A lot of IPOs from last year that are still in the pipeline, had issue sizes between ₹400-800 crore. However there are a few like Emcure <keyword id="6363818" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pharma" source="Orion">Pharma</keyword> which had plans to raise over ₹4,500 crore as well. The decision to go ahead with an IPO will not depend on the size of the issue, but on pricing, says Kejriwal. “When the momentum is good, subscriptions and listings are good, it’s possible to slip in a bad issue but not when the market is still picking up. After <keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> capped the amount that HNIs (high networth individuals) can borrow to invest in IPOs to ₹1 crore, they will have to invest their own funds and that will make a huge difference to subscriptions,” says Kejriwal. Too early to say primary market is seeing a revival

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Small business owners are on the brink of a prosperous era, economist Phil Powell says.</li><li>The Federal Reserve is expected to cut rates, the economy is growing, and productivity is increasing.</li></ul><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/entrepreneurs-small-business-owners-share-challenges-of-starting-company-2023-10">Small business owners</a> have reasons to stay optimistic.With the economy still growing and the Federal Reserve expected to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fed-rate-cuts-labor-market-federal-reserve-jerome-powell-unemployment-2024-8">cut interest rates</a> next week, economist Phil Powell told Business Insider that small businesses are on the precipice of an era of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gdp-gross-domestic-product-second-quarter-2024-us-economy-2024-7">prosperity and growth</a>."There are bright days ahead, but it's not going to be frantic," Powell said. "It's going to be a nice, steady, incremental improvement."Powell, who is the executive director of the Indiana Business Research Center and a business economics professor at Indiana University Kelley School of Business, said <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boomer-entrepreneur-started-business-be-own-boss-consulting-part-time-2024-8">small business owners</a> should not expect relief overnight, but gradually, they should start to feel easing financial pressures, such as more affordable credit.Fed Chair Jerome Powell <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/interestrates/powell-hints-at-near-term-interest-rate-cut-the-time-has-come-for-policy-to-adjust-1033718618">signaled on August 23</a> that it was time for the central bank to cut the Federal Funds rate, which has remained between 5.25% and 5.5% for over a year. This has spiked the interest rates small business owners are paying on new mortgages, credit, and loans.According to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">CME FedWatch Tool</a>, there's a roughly 75% chance that the Federal Open Markets Committee will decrease interest rates by 25 basis points and a 25% chance the Fed will decrease interest rates by 50 basis points.Powell said that small business owners are poised to benefit regardless of the size of the cut and should remain hopeful about future growth."Falling interest rates are going to make credit easier to acquire," Powell said. "If you're a small business, whether you need a loan for a capital investment or a loan for working capital, it's going to be easier to acquire, steadily."<h2 id="4365bdec-7a60-4f9a-8f5f-283ee993e9e1">The brightening economic outlook goes beyond interest rates</h2>Entrepreneurs have filed a record 19 million <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link" href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/featured-stories/small-business-and-entrepreneurship-in-the-post-covid-expansion#:~:text=The%20post%2Dpandemic%20economy%2C%20with,since%20the%20end%20of%202020.">applications</a> for new businesses in the past four years, and business applications remain elevated above pre-pandemic levels.Additionally, small businesses created 71% of net new jobs since 2019, according to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/featured-stories/small-business-and-entrepreneurship-in-the-post-covid-expansion#:~:text=The%20post%2Dpandemic%20economy%2C%20with,since%20the%20end%20of%202020.">Treasury Department</a>. While the small business economy can be volatile, and applications don't always translate into successful projects, according to Powell, well-managed businesses are in for an era of stable growth.In fact, Powell is bullish that small businesses are poised for a productivity boom like in the 1990s when there was a surge in tech startups surrounding the development of the internet.Powell said that similar to the 1990s, the US economy has seen strong year-over-year growth in corporate profit, stock market growth, and increases in labor productivity.Business labor productivity in the second quarter was up <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2024/productivity-increased-2-7-percent-from-second-quarter-2023-to-second-quarter-2024.htm#:~:text=Nonfarm%20business%20sector%20labor%20productivity,hours%20worked%20rose%200.7%20percent.">2.7% year-over-year</a>, which is an overlooked yet positive sign for economic growth, Powell said. He also said <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-use-ai-save-time-work-best-ways-use-chatgpt-2024-9">AI will further contribute</a> to a productivity boom if entrepreneurs can learn to use it to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://businessinsider.com/how-use-ai-same-time-work-chatgpt-claude-jasper-2024-9">save time</a>.Powell said solid economic growth is another positive sign for small businesses. According to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bea.gov/data/gdp/gross-domestic-product#:~:text=Gross%20Domestic%20Product%20(Second%20Estimate,Preliminary%20Estimate)%2C%20Second%20Quarter%202024&amp;text=Real%20gross%20domestic%20product%20(GDP,the%20calculation%20of%20GDP%2C%20increased.">Bureau of Economic Analysis</a>, real GDP increased 3% year-over-year in the second quarter of this year.To be sure, many small businesses aren't feeling the relief yet. According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nfib.com/surveys/small-business-economic-trends/">small business confidence</a> dipped in August. Yet, Powell said the economic data points to brighter days ahead despite the dip in optimism."The economy is much better than it feels, but our emotions lead us astray in terms of our impressions, even as business owners," he said.Economic indicators <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-economy-outlook-data-points-to-soft-landing-no-recession-2024-9">point to a soft landing</a>, and small business owners who are struggling with high rates just need to make it through these next few months, Powell said."What they should be fearful of is that they're going to get too pessimistic, and they're going to make emotional business decisions, and they're going to lose out on what could be several years of upcoming prosperity driven by right now," he said.Sean Higgins, an associate professor of finance at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, similarly told Business Insider that interest rate cuts could be particularly positive for small business growth.He said small businesses tend to be more credit-constrained, so changes in interest rates are particularly influential for business owners' management decisions."They are often the ones that can be more affected by or benefit more once rates come back down, relative to larger businesses," Higgins said.Higgins said that interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve would create access to cheaper credit, enabling small business owners — whether tech startups or mom-and-pop shops on Main Street — to invest further in growing their businesses or funding expenses.Are you a small business owner who has experienced a recent change in sales or hiring? Small business owners could be poised for a 1990s-like boom

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have reportedly been tapped on a valuation of OpenAI.</li><li>The transformative AI startup is evaluating what it could take to become a for-profit company.</li></ul>As <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/goldman-sachs-3q-results-dealmaking-trading-resurgence-david-solomon-2024-10">third-quarter earnings demonstrated</a>, Wall Street dealmaking appears to be bouncing back after three years of lackluster activity.For bank bosses, it signals a return to vying for the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/megamergers-deals-m-a-wall-street-comeback-2024-9">biggest M&amp;As</a>, IPOs, and debt-capital raises in hopes of the largest paydays for themselves and their firms. Yet, one of the most coveted projects on the Street right now is unlikely to mint much money for the investment banks involved — at least in the short term.Last week, the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/the-14-billion-question-dividing-openai-and-microsoft-71cf7d37">Wall Street Journal reported</a> that OpenAI and its longtime backer, Microsoft, have begun talks to determine how much money Microsoft stands to receive if OpenAI converted to a for-profit institution. The Journal reported that OpenAI tapped advisors at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/goldman-sachs-2q-earnings-david-solomon-investment-banking-forecast-2024-7">Goldman Sachs</a>, and Microsoft, which has poured some $14 billion into the AI startup as a nonprofit, is relying on Morgan Stanley to facilitate the negotiations. Spokespersons for both Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley declined to comment or confirm their reported participation in the project.BI called up two Wall Street dealmakers who specialize in tech banking to walk us through what the process could look like, as well as a valuation expert on the faculty of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wharton-data-science-class-upenn-madoff-diamonds-airbnb-finance-jobs-2022-3">Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania</a>. They also shared a look at what it could mean for the banks that won this business, both in terms of pay and reputation. The two investment bankers – neither of whom are affiliated with Goldman, Morgan Stanley, OpenAI, or Microsoft — requested anonymity to preserve industry relationships.The experts said the OpenAI valuation process stands to be stressful and drawn out — potentially taking up to six months — and could come with little to no financial reward for the banks involved. That said, the job still represents a huge win for Goldman and Morgan Stanley's tech teams since they now stand at the front of the line for whatever comes next for OpenAI.Thanks to ChatGPT, San Francisco-based OpenAI stands at the forefront of the artificial-intelligence revolution, which is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pwc.com/gx/en/issues/artificial-intelligence/publications/artificial-intelligence-study.html">projected</a> to contribute nearly $16 trillion to the world economy by 2030, according to consulting firm PwC. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/openai-nearly-doubles-valuation-to-157-billion-in-funding-round-ee220607?mod=article_inline">A recent fundraise</a> valued the company at more than $150 billion. After it converts to a for-profit company, it could seek to raise money through the stock market or make acquisitions — all of which could prove lucrative for its Wall Street partners.Even the banks that are not part of this process stand to win if the final valuation is high enough, said Michael Roberts, the finance professor at Wharton. "If it comes at a really high multiple, what does that mean? It means you can raise an enormous amount of money if you are an AI company," he said, adding: "If I go back 15 years, the place to be as an investment banker was in Silicon Valley. But this could be sort of the next Silicon Valley 3.0."Here's a look inside the process and what it means for the Wall Street dealmakers who won this business, according to the tech bankers and the finance professor.<h2 id="277fe458-53dd-471b-bcca-880ebd8043d7">The banks have different goals: 'You're going to do battle'</h2>Morgan Stanley's objective will be to secure the greatest equity for its client, Microsoft, while Goldman's goal may be the opposite — pitting the two sides against one another."You're going to do battle," said one of the sources — a senior tech banker at a midsize investment bank — about the bankers on either side of the negotiating table.The valuation could take as much as six months, depending on what legal snags crop up, these people said. Since there's no obvious precedent for valuing this company, the bankers will want to get creative, which could open the door to lots of debate.The tech banker at the midsize firm said the goal will be to find comparisons in the real world that would make a compelling case for what OpenAI could be worth. "You might look at some of the early days of the last couple of generations of very disruptive technologies," he said, citing Apple in its early iPhone era and Google "back in the early days of disrupting the search market."The second banker, a former executive at a large-cap investment bank who now handles some tech deals at a small, independent firm, said that the banks will do a "landscape analysis" and ask questions about whether OpenAI could one day take Google's place.Roberts, the Wharton professor, proffered the name of another disruptive tech company: Uber. As it redefined the ride-hailing industry, there were "enormous" variations in its valuation projections. For OpenAI, though, the situation could be even more complex since its impact on the economy stands to be more dramatic.<h2 id="f2400755-f31e-489f-891d-876291a5211f">Risks and rewards</h2>Two of the experts BI spoke to estimated that the banks' fees for their work on the valuation could be low, at under $25 million each, with one suggesting it could even be gratis due to the competitive nature of the business. A third expert estimated the fees would likely be greater than $25 million but under $100 million.For context, advising on an actual merger or big-ticket public offering can <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/04/banks-earn-650-million-in-fees-and-stock-gains-from-ipo-flurry.html">generate many multiples of that</a> for investment-banking advisors — to the tune of hundreds of millions.The fees, however, are not likely the focus. "The goal is to lock the relationship up," said the senior technology dealmaker at the midsize firm, noting that OpenAI and Microsoft are companies that bankers would kill to have as clients.This banker said <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-altman-chatgpt-openai-ceo-career-net-worth-ycombinator-prepper-2023-1">Sam Altman</a>, the founder of OpenAI, appears to put a premium on trust and interpersonal relationships, which could be to Goldman's benefit. He has a reputation for being "loyalty-driven," said the banker, who has met Altman and knows his reputation through conversations with the tech community.Morgan Stanley, for its part, has enjoyed a relationship with Microsoft that stretches back years. In 2016, the firm was the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-and-linkedin-bankers-2016-6">only advisor to Microsoft</a> on its $26 billion acquisition of social-networking-giant LinkedIn.This wouldn't be the first time banks have shown a willingness to play the long game in exchange for future potential gains.In 2022, a syndicate of banks led by Morgan Stanley <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-elon-musk-was-able-to-buy-twitter-despite-risks-2022-4">assembled $25 billion in capital</a> to lend to Tesla founder Elon Musk to finance his acquisition of X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter. X's lackluster financial performance prevented some banks <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-x-twitter-debt-financing-banks-2008-financial-crisis-2024-8">from offloading the debt</a>, leading to losses. However, the goal, as one banker said at the time, was to "get a foot in the door with the man and his business."The investment banker who formerly worked at a large-cap bank said potential drawbacks could include some banks being excluded from other AI deals for competitive reasons."The likelihood that Google would take a very stance and be less willing to work with them is probably high because whenever you're involved in something like this, you're 'under the tent,' and you're seeing a lot of very sensitive things about where something is going and not going," this person explained.Largely speaking, however, Wall Street is poised to win, Roberts said."Given how much money's at stake here, even the loser isn't really going to lose, are they?" he said, adding, "It's all relative."Are you an investment-banking insider?
