The income of individuals earning over Rs 10 crore annually grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 121% between FY19 and FY24, reaching a staggering Rs 38 lakh crore. Those earning more than Rs 5 crore annually saw their collective income grow by 106% CAGR, amounting to Rs 40 lakh crore. Individuals earning over Rs 10 cr rise by 63% in India; financial assets of high net worth individuals to nearly double by 2028

The Mahindra Group company posted a net profit of Rs 493.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing. Revenue rose by 3.49 per cent to Rs 13,313.2 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25 compared to Rs 12,863.9 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24. "Other income includes gain on sale of property of Rs 4,502 million which comprises of freehold land and its related buildings along with the furniture &amp; fixtures sold for a consideration of Rs 5,350 million, receivable over a period of four years along with interest of 8.2 per cent p.a," the company filing said. Sequentially, net profit rose by 46.81 per cent and revenue by 2.36 per cent. "We continue to progress on our strategic improvement efforts even as the overall IT services industry has remained soft. "We have focused on strengthening client relationships and expanding the partner ecosystem while maintaining a sharp focus on operational excellence through project Fortius, which has resulted in an expansion of margins for the third sequential quarter," Tech Mahindra CEO Mohit Joshi said. The CEO unveiled Project Fortius in April, a three-year plan to achieve a 15 per cent operating margin with a focus on organic growth. "This quarter we see consistent performance around increasing deal wins, <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, cost optimisation and steady free cash flow generation as we continue our journey towards FY27 stated targets. In line with our capital allocation policy the board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share," Tech Mahindra CFO Rohit Anand said. The company's TCV (<keyword id="23580531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Total-Contract-Value" source="keywords">Total Contract Value</keyword>), or net new deal wins, stood at USD 603 million in the second quarter of FY25. Tech Mahindra profit jumps over 2-times to ₹1,250 crore in Jul-Sep quarter

<keyword id="19938730" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVS-Motor" source="keywords">TVS Motor</keyword> Company on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit increased 6 per cent to Rs 461 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2024, riding on the back of robust sales. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 434 crore in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. Total income rose to Rs 10,448 crore for the period under review as compared to Rs 9,142 crore in the year-ago period, TVS Motor Company said in a regulatory filing. On a standalone basis, the company posted a profit after tax of Rs 577 crore for the first quarter as compared to Rs 468 crore in the June quarter of the last fiscal, it added. Total income rose to Rs 8,412 crore for the first quarter as against Rs 7,275 crore in the year-ago period. The company said its overall two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales including exports grew 14 per cent year-on-year, registering sales of 10.87 lakh units in the quarter ended June 2024 as against 9.53 lakh units registered in the quarter ended June 2023. Motorcycle sales grew by 11 per cent year on year at 5.14 lakh units in the first quarter as against 4.63 lakh units in the same period last fiscal. Scooter sales grew by 19 per cent year-on-year to 4.18 lakh units in the April-June quarter this year. Three-wheeler sales for the quarter under review stood at 31,000 units as against 35,000 units in the year-ago period, TVS said. Electric scooter sales for the quarter ended June 30, 2024, stood at 52,000 units as compared to 39,000 units in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. Shares of TVS Motor Company on Tuesday ended 0.75 per cent down at Rs 2,474.45 apiece on the BSE. TVS Motor Q1 profit rises 6% to ₹461 crore; total income at ₹10,448 crore

The life insurer had posted a net profit of Rs 777 crore in the year-ago quarter. <keyword id="20840570" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="total-income" source="keywords">Total income</keyword> during January-March FY24 rose to Rs 37,567 crore from Rs 22,805 crore in the same period of FY23, <keyword id="19906098" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi-life" source="keywords">SBI Life</keyword> said in a regulatory filing. Net premium income in Q4FY24 stood at Rs 25,116 crore as against Rs 19,897 crore in the year-ago period. For the full year 2023-24, the company's net profit grew 10 per cent to Rs 1,890 crore from Rs 1,720 crore in the previous year. Total income during the year rose to Rs 1,32,631 crore from Rs 81,598 crore a year ago. SBI Life said it registered a growth of 9 per cent in the value of new business (VoNB) to Rs 5,550 crore in FY24. VoNB is the present value of expected future earnings from new policies written during a specified period. It reflects the additional value expected to be generated through the writing of new policies during a specified period. Assets under management (AUM) grew 27 per cent to Rs 3.8 lakh crore as of March 31, 2024, it said. Solvency ratio declined to 196 per cent from 215 per cent in the previous fiscal. Solvency margin represents the additional capital that an insurer must maintain to cover potential claims beyond their expected liabilities. This serves as a financial safety net, ensuring their ability to settle all claims even in the most challenging circumstances. SBI Life Q4 profit rises 4% to ₹811 crore

Total income increased to Rs 85,500 crore during the quarter under review against Rs 78,406 crore in the same period last year, HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing. The bank reported <keyword id="20202322" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-income" source="keywords">interest income</keyword> of Rs 74,017 crore during the quarter compared to Rs 67,698 crore in the same period a year ago. Net Interest Income (NII) improved to Rs 30,110 crore, from Rs 27,390 crore in the second quarter of previous year, registering a 10 per cent growth. As regards asset quality, the bank witnessed slight deterioration with gross <keyword id="19927319" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Non-Performing-Assets" source="keywords">Non-Performing Assets</keyword> (NPAs) rising to 1.36 per cent of the gross loans by the end of September 2024 from 1.34 per cent a year ago. Similarly, net NPAs or bad loans rose to 0.41 per cent from 0.35 per cent at the end of the second quarter of the previous fiscal. On a consolidated basis, the bank logged a growth of 6 per cent in net profit to Rs 17,826 crore as against Rs Rs 16,811 crore in Q2FY24. HDFC Bank Q2 profit soars 5% to ₹16,821 crore

Finance Minister <keyword id="19916618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman" source="keywords">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> on Tuesday announced <keyword id="20404375" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="income-tax-relief" source="keywords">income tax relief</keyword> for the <keyword id="20071167" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="middle-class" source="keywords">middle class</keyword>, a Rs 2 lakh crore outlay for <keyword id="22517841" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="job-creation-schemes" source="keywords">job creation schemes</keyword> over the next five years and a spending splurge for states run by her party's new coalition partners as she unveiled <keyword id="20509939" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi-3-0" source="keywords">Modi 3.0</keyword> government's first budget after the general elections. With rural distress and unemployment being blamed for BJP losing its majority, Sitharaman in her seventh straight budget provided Rs 2.66 lakh crore for <keyword id="20027688" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rural-development" source="keywords">rural development</keyword> and maintained spending on long-term infrastructure projects at Rs 11.11 lakh crore to boost <keyword id="19900794" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-growth" source="keywords">economic growth</keyword>. She abolished 'angel tax' for all classes of investors in startups, cut customs duty on mobile phones and gold and simplified capital gains tax. She, however, raised the securities transaction tax (STT) on futures and options of securities, which led to tanking of stock markets. "India's economic growth continues to be the shining exception (in a world that is gripped by policy uncertainties) and will remain so in the years ahead," she said. "In this budget, we particularly focus on <keyword id="19898684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="employment" source="keywords">employment</keyword>, <keyword id="20374219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="skilling" source="keywords">skilling</keyword>, MSMEs, and the middle class." Besides Rs 2 lakh crore provided over a five year period for schemes and initiatives to facilitate employment, skilling and other opportunities for 4.1 crore youth, "I have made a provision of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, employment and skilling," she said. For Bihar, where assembly elections are due next year, the finance minister announced spending of Rs 60,000 crore on infrastructure projects like expressways, power plant, heritage corridors and new airports. The support to Bihar, whose ruling party and BJP's partner JD-U has been demanding an economic package and special category status for the state, is in the form of capital projects but not subsidy or cash dole. Similarly, for Andhra Pradesh, whose ruling TDP recently joined BJP-led NDA, she allocated Rs 15,000 crore in financial aid through multilateral agencies. A similar request for support to Bihar will be expedited, she said. For the middle class, she raised standard deduction -- a flat deduction from total salary earned by an employee in a year before calculating applicable income tax rate -- by 50 per cent to Rs 75,000 and tweaked tax slabs for taxpayers opting for the new income tax regime. This will lead to taxpayers under the new tax regime -- which offers lower rates of taxes but permits limited deductions and exemptions -- saving up to Rs 17,500 in tax annually, she said. To spur employment, the Budget provided for incentives for companies, including paying for one-month salary for first-time employees, incentive at specified sale to both employee and empower with respect to their retirement fund contribution in the first four years of employment and reimbursing employers up to Rs 3,000 per month for 2 years towards EPFO contribution of each additional employee. Also, a programme to improve skills as well internship for students and subsidised loans for higher education will be provided, she said. India's official unemployment rate in urban areas is pegged at 6.7 per cent but private agencies put it at much higher levels. Buoyed by robust tax collections and a higher-than-expected dividend receipt from the Reserve Bank, Sitharaman said the government's fiscal deficit -- the difference between the total revenue earned and total expenditure -- will be trimmed to 4.9 per cent of the GDP in 2024-25, below the 5.1 per cent figure estimated in the interim budget she presented in February. She reduced gross market borrowing marginally to Rs 14.01 lakh crore. The Budget for 2024-25 fiscal (April 2024 to March 2025) allocated Rs 1.52 lakh crore for agriculture and allied sectors, aid for building 3 crore affordable housing units in urban and rural areas, provided credit support to small and medium businesses, raised small loans to Rs 20 lakh for small business, proposed setting up 12 industrial parks, and provided for setting up a Rs 1,000 crore venture capital fund for space sector.

Modi 3.0 1st Budget: Tax relief for middle class, Rs 2 lakh cr job scheme

New Delhi, State-owned <keyword id="159757" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NBCC" source="Orion">NBCC</keyword> (India) Ltd has reported a 16 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 81.90 crore for the second quarter of this fiscal due to provisioning for expected loss in a Gurugram housing project. Its net profit stood at Rs 97.72 crore in the year-ago period. The total income, however, rose to Rs 2,129.09 crore during the July-September period of 2023-24 from Rs 2073.89 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year, a regulatory filing said on Thursday. The company's consolidated net profit increased to Rs 159.31 crore in the September 2023 quarter against Rs 92.87 crore in the year-ago period. Its total income rose to Rs 4,094.90 crore in the first six months of this fiscal from Rs 3,927.13 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. A preferred partner of the government for infrastructure projects, NBCC's 93.22 per cent of business revenue comes from the PMC (project management consultancy) segment and redevelopment works on a consolidated basis. The company is also into real estate development. NBCC's profit declined during the September quarter despite a rise in the total income due to an exception item of provisioning of losses of Rs 65.39 crore. In notes of account, NBCC said that "the group has made an additional provision for expected loss of Rs 6,539.19 lakh against sale of flats/units/interest/cost of stamp duty and registration charges for execution of title deed of flats/units in the favour of group at the quarter and six months ended on September 30, 2023". The matter is related to its residential real estate project 'NBCC Green View', Sector - 37 D, Gurugram. NBCC had sold 392 units (255 flats, 126 EWS and 11 shops) out of 942 units and had received a total amount of Rs 210.12 crore, out of which Rs 159.57 crore was recognised as revenue in the previous year and Rs 40.48 crore were booked as advance from allottees till March 31, 2022. "Subsequently, the buildings in the project exhibited structural cracks. The group received many complaints and representation from some of the homebuyers. Group appointed IIT Delhi to look into the matters," the filing said. IIT Delhi, in its report dated October 6, 2021, advised that the buildings must be vacated within two months in view of the safety of the occupants and further advised to get the feasibility of repairs re-examined. Thereafter, a committee of experts from IIT Roorkee and CBRI Roorkee (Central Buildings Research Institute) was constituted for structural assessment of this project in furtherance to the report of IIT Delhi. "This expert committee opined that no repair/restoration method seems economically viable and safe in the long term. It is recommended to demolish the structure," NBCC said. Further, a review panel of two retired SDGs of CPWD was constituted, which also concurred with the recommendation given by the expert committee. "In view of the advice from the experts and considering the safety of the residents, the buildings were evacuated completely with the help of the District Administration under Disaster Management Act," NBCC said. The company, in its board meeting held on June 21, 2022, accorded the approval to settle with all the homebuyers/allottees by way of buyback of their flats/units by paying the total amount received from the allottees against the sale of flats/units amounting to Rs 210.12 crore and the cost of stamp duty and registration charges paid by them amounting to Rs 9.73 crore. Accordingly, the offer letter for the buyback of their flats/EWS units/shops was communicated to all homebuyers/allottees through posts and mails. "In view of the uninspiring response from the buyers against the first and second buyback offer of the group, the Board in its 529th meeting held on August 18, 2023, decided to reconsider the same in order to arrive at an amicable settlement," NBCC said. In addition, Rs 12.24 crore (approximately) is estimated to be incurred towards the cost of stamp duty and registration charges for execution of title deed of flats/units in the favour of the group. "Accordingly, the group, in its submission to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCRDC) on October 6, 2023, submitted its willingness to refund the entire amount received from complainants with simple interest at 6 per cent per annum from the date of respective deposits," NBCC said.

Today is <keyword id="22458495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="July-31st" source="keywords">July 31st</keyword>, 2024, the last day to file your income tax returns, without having to pay any penalties. And before you ask, the <keyword id="19903456" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="income-tax-department" source="keywords">Income Tax Department</keyword> has not come out with any notification informing the taxpayers of a deadline extension. That is why you should not delay filing your <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/personal-finance/article/heres-your-ready-reckoner-for-itr-filing/articleshow/111402608.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">income tax returns</a> anymore! The <keyword id="20171597" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-department" source="keywords">IT department</keyword> noted that as of July 26th, 2024, over 5 crore ITRs had already been filed, marking an 8.5% increase from the number of ITRs filed during this period, last year. The IT department, in an X post, highlighted that last year, it had reached the 5-crore <keyword id="22083160" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ITR-filing-deadline" source="keywords">ITR filing deadline</keyword> on July 27th. However, this year, it had breached the milestone a day earlier, i.e., on July 26th, 2024. Earlier, the All Gujarat Federation of Tax Consultants and Income Tax Bar Association had requested a deadline extension for AY 2024–25 from July 31st, 2024, to August 31st, 2024, citing issues and glitches in the tax filing portal. However, there has been no response from the finance ministry on the same. <h2>What happens if I don't file my ITR until July 31st? </h2>For AY 2024–25, you can file a <keyword id="6380232" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="belated-ITR" source="Orion">belated ITR</keyword> until December 31st, 2024. But remember, it comes with many disadvantages as well. Here's a snapshot of all the benefits you will have to forego: <h2>What are the penalties for late filing of ITR? </h2>1. You will have to pay a penalty of Rs. 1,000 if your total annual taxable income is below Rs 5,00,000. But if your taxable income exceeds this threshold, you will have to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000. 2. Even if you have to file a <keyword id="17933087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIL-ITR" source="Orion">nil ITR</keyword>, you must do so before July 31st. This is because if you do not end up filing it on time, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. 3. According to Section 234A of the <keyword id="19936187" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="income-tax-act" source="keywords">Income Tax Act</keyword>, you will also have to pay interest on your outstanding tax amount at the rate of 1% per month, starting from the due date, i.e., July 31st. <h2>No carry forward of losses, old tax regime</h2>1. You will not be able to carry forward any losses, including those from your mutual funds or stock investments, business income, and other sources. You will only be allowed to carry forward your losses from house properties. This could significantly raise your total tax liability and lead to you incurring hefty losses. 2. After July 31st, 2024, you will not be able to opt for the old tax regime for tax calculation purposes. Starting August 1, the new tax regime, which offers significantly fewer deductions and exemptions as compared to the old regime, will be considered default for you. ITR Filing: Today is the last day to file your income tax returns, so file today to avoid penalties

July is here, and while we are still 5 months away from the end of 2024, the deadline to file your <keyword id="19897621" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ITR" source="keywords">ITR</keyword> is July 31st, which is looming large. While it is best to not "file away" filing your income tax returns for later, are you aware of the right ITR form that applies to you? Out of the 7 ITR forms available, how do you know which one is the right fit for you, and where to start? For starters, the first 4 ITR forms (ITR-1,2,3,4) are necessary for an individual to know about, while filing taxes. Lets decode all these forms in detail with Tanya, a 22 year old IT professional who earns Rs 10,000 per month. Her mother has a monthly rental income of Rs 12,000 per month. Will the two of them be required to file ITR? Well, the answer is no. You see, Tanya's <keyword id="21120362" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="annual-income" source="keywords">annual income</keyword> comes to about Rs 1,20,000, while her mother's total rental income comes to about Rs 2,40,000. If you opt for the old tax regime, you don't need to file an ITR if you annual income is below Rs 2.5 lakh. In the new regime, this limit stands at Rs 3 lakh. Similarly, if your grandparents are aged between 61-79, they need not file an ITR if their annual income (via rent, pensions) falls below Rs 3 lakh. And if they are aged above 80, this threshold if of Rs 5 lakh for the year. <h2>ITR-1: Sahaj </h2>Lets continue with Tanya's life. She works super hard, and over the years, earns a few well deserved raises. Now, her monthly income is Rs 50,000. In this case, she will have to file ITR-1, which is also known as Sahaj. This form applies to you if your total annual income for the year does not exceed Rs 50,00,000. The best part? This form is generally pre-filled, and all you've got to do is verify the information through your <keyword id="22247325" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Form-16" source="keywords">Form-16</keyword> and Annual Information Statement (AIS). <h2>ITR-2 </h2>Over time, Tanya decides to start investing in mutual funds. While she holds most of her investments for the long-term, she is compelled to sell some units of her investment in equity mutual funds, due to a medical emergency at home. She had purchased some equity mutual fund units worth Rs 2,00,000 on April 1, 2023. Due to the emergency, she had to sell about Rs 80,000 worth of units in December of the same year. On redemption, she received Rs 1,10,000. Since she had held these securities for less than 12 months, Tanya would have to pay a short-term <keyword id="20301441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-gains-tax" source="keywords">capital gains tax</keyword> of 15%, Had Tanya held on to these securities for more than 12 months and then sold them at a gain, she'd have to pay long-term capital gains tax, which is applicable at 10% for equity mutual funds. And to account for such capital gains, be it from sale of shares, mutual funds, property or the like, Tanya needs to file ITR-2. <h2>ITR-3</h2>Tanya's brother, Vishal, is a freelancer who got hooked to trading in futures and options during the pandemic. Initially, he made solid profits, but during FY24, he ran into losses worth Rs 5 lakh. In this case, he will have to file ITR-3 to report his losses. This form is to be used by those who earn income under the head of profits (or even losses) of business or profession, other than regular salary. In case Tanya's mother starts receiving rental income from more than one house properties, she will also have to file ITR-3. Or, in case you are a CA, or a doctor and have your own practice (are self employed), this form is for you. <h2>ITR-4: Sugam </h2>This form is exclusively for those who opt to be taxed under the presumptive taxation scheme. You can opt for this scheme if you are a small business/firm and your annual turnover is less than Rs 3 crore, or you are self employed with an annual revenue of less than Rs 75 lakh. Under this, you don't pay taxes on your actual income, rather, you pay taxes on a presumed income. As per law, under this scheme, your net income will be considered as 6% of your total revenue, and you'll have to pay taxes on that. Here, you're really not calculating your income for taxation, and hence, it is not even mandatory to maintain records. In case you file the wrong ITR, you can always file a revised return by December 31, 2024. In case you miss filing your ITR on time, you’ll have to pay Rs 5,000 as a penalty. Firstly, there are your regular documents like PAN and Aadhar card. Also, keep all details of the bank account where you want your IT refund to be credited handy. It is advisable to also have your Annual Income Statement (AIS) ready, so that you can cross-verify and match all your income details while filing your ITR. AIS as a consolidated financial summary of your year <h2>Time to get in <keyword id="22247325" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Form-16" source="keywords">form-16</keyword></h2>Up next is Form-16. This gives you a complete overview of your total earned salary and the TDS deducted. This is issued by the employer to their employee. So, if you have switched jobs during the year, or worked with one or more organizations, you'll have to ask both your current and former employer for Form-16. Additionally, along with Form-16, you should also ask your previous employer to give you a statement of full and final settlement. Generally, form-16 has two parts-A and B. While part-A carries details of the employer and a summary of salary payments made during the year, part-B is where you will find your salary breakup, and the deductions made from your salary, which include payment of life and health insurance premiums, contributions made to pension fund and more.<h2>Keep rent, travel proofs handy while filing ITR </h2>In case you are claiming tax deductions under HRA (house rent agreement), you will need a notarized rent agreement as proof of rent payment. Generally, rent agreements are made for a period of 11 months. Next, in case you have availed LTA (leave travel allowance), you should have all travel-related bills handy. You can claim tax exemption on LTA in two ways. One, you can claim exemption on the amount you've actually spent on your travel. Otherwise, within a 4-year time block (2022-2025), you can claim exemption for a maximum of 2 vacations. This is applicable only for domestic travel, and you can claim exemption for your immediate family members as well. But remember, LTA will not cover your accommodation or food-related expenses incurred on the trip. Up next are your investment proofs and capital gains statement. If you've paid premiums for a life or health insurance policy during the year, or invested in ELSS (equity-linked savings scheme), you need to furnish proofs for the same. You can claim an annual <keyword id="20265008" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-deduction" source="keywords">tax deduction</keyword> of up to Rs 25,000 on premiums paid towards your health insurance policy. In fact, your insurance company will send you a certificate to that effect as well. As for ELSS, you can claim an annual tax deduction of up to Rs 1,50,000. But you cannot withdraw money from ELSS before 3 years, so invest carefully. <h2> Pay attention to capital gains while filing ITR</h2>If you've redeemed, or sold some of your investments (property, stocks, mutual funds) during the year and earned profit on them, you'll have to pay <keyword id="20301441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-gains-tax" source="keywords">capital gains tax</keyword>. But this is applicable only if your capital gains are over Rs 1,00,000 in one financial year. If you sold a share/mutual fund unit within 12 months of buying it, you'll have to pay a 15% short term capital gains tax. And if you redeemed an investment after 12 months, you'll be charged 10% long term capital gains tax. That is why it would help to have a capital gains statement handy, which will help you understand how much tax you have to pay.

Do not miss out on reporting on your income from other sources. Generally, we only account for our salary, income from business/profession and capital gains (if any) while calculating our tax liability. However, there is one crucial segment we tend to forget-income from other sources. This includes interest income from your savings account, fixed deposits, recurring deposits and bonds. 2. Income from other sources also includes any dividend income you've received throughout the year through stocks, mutual funds, and any monetary gifts with value of over Rs 50,000 you've received from friends, acquaintances, or anyone but your relatives. File your ITR as per Form 26AS, which is a condensed version of AIS, and Form 16A and B, which is provided by your employer (both previous and current).
